Antarctica: DecoArt® Whale

Whales are the largest animals in the world. Drawn to the cold, nutrient-rich Antarctic waters, ten species of whales spend their summers at the bottom of the world. Create oceans of fun crafting an orca whale with DecoArt® paint, terra cotta pots and craft foam.


  • DecoArt® Patio Paint – Cloud White and Wrought Iron Black
  • Rose Terra Cotta Pots, 6.3 cm (2½") (2)
  • Standard Terra Cotta Pot, 3.8 cm (1½)"
  • Paintbrushes – #12 Flat and #0 Liner
  • Paper Towels
  • Water Container
  • Palette (or Plastic Plate)
  • Tracing & Transfer Paper
  • Craft Foam – Black
  • Scissors
  • Craft Glue

Step 1
Trace and transfer tail and fin patterns onto black fun foam. Cut out shapes with scissors and set aside.

Step 2
Use #12 flat brush and Cloud White to paint all three pots.

Step 3
Position and adhere rose pots with large open ends face to face. Position and adhere small pot at base of one rose pot. Let dry completely.

Step 4
Use #12 flat brush and Wrought Iron Black to paint whale’s back and sides, leaving belly area and oval behind eyes Cloud White. Refer to photo for placement.

Step 5
Use liner brush and Cloud White to paint small circles for eyes just in front of Cloud White ovals.

Step 6
Position and adhere fins and tail with craft glue.
