All seam allowances are 3/8".
Cut tulle into 3" x 45" strips until gone.
Cut enough 1" satin ribbon to tie around child's waist with a bow.
Cut enough ribbon of your choice to tie the cape loosely around child's neck.
Measure from child's waist to desired length of tutu and double the measurement.
Cut each individual 3" wide tulle strip into the desired length of the tutu, not forgetting to double the measurement length before you cut.
With the ribbon already cut to length, fold the ribbon in half to find the center of the ribbon. Working on both sides of the center mark, tie the strips to the ribbon. Repeat until enough tulle is tied to the ribbon to make a full child's tutu.
For the princess cape, determine how long you want the cape to be before you begin. Add 3" to this measurement for cutting purposes. Cut two rectangular pieces of fabric; the length measurement x the width of the fabric.
Pin the rectangles right sides together, stitch around all four sides of the rectangle, and leave an 8" opening for turning. Turn and press raw edges inward.
Top stitch around perimeter, catching 8" opening in seam.
Fold the top edge of the rectangle down 2" and press. Stitch at ¼" from folded edges to form casing for ribbon drawstring. Use a safety pin attached to one end of the ribbon to thread through the casing.
Note: While every attempt has been made to give accurate measurements, yardage requirements and construction directions, this does not allow for personal variations in measuring and cutting.
CAUTION: Make sure to adjust the length of the tutu so that your child or others won't step on it and risk falling.
NOTE: Use caution when attaching string or ribbon to children's clothing, they can be a strangulation hazard.
