I use the 2 lid portions as a pallette, Im not sure if thats what it's intended purpose was. but it has worked wonderfully for keeping my acrylic paint wet over the course of several days. I only wish I could pop the lid back on the brushholder/cleaner tub while using it as a pallete, but the compartmentalized section I use for the pallette doesnt fit in like the other lid.

Otherwise I love it and use it daily

I didn't think I would use the lid but it was very useful with my gouaches. It was helped a lot at the end with painting and drying my brushes after cleanup.
