This isn't the review Michaels or BeadLanding wants, but it's an honest one.  This kit is not what you're looking for if you're trying to solder jewelry components for quality finished products.  

When soldering jewelry, you heat the metal - not the solder.  A soldering iron (max 600'F) is not likely to to heat copper to the 1800'F+ necessary to melt a quality solder.  Typically fine silver, not copper, is used for this, since it takes less heat and makes a good product.  Since a lot of fashion jewelry (including Michaels' own preferred brands) rely largely on unspecified base metal alloys, it's uncertain if this iron would even heat those up enough for small repairs.

There are also no indications as to what type of solder this is: hard, medium, soft or easy, and if you're doing something that needs multiple heatings that makes a difference: heating it up to the same temp as the original join can cause that first one to open up again.

There are no separate supporting products for jewelry soldering in Michaels' inventory - no heat tiles to work over, no pickle to remove firescale, no flux to make the solder flow, no confirmed fine silver strips or wire or even clearly identified grades of solder.  This kit was designed by someone who doesn't make jewelry themselves and who doesn't know what's needed, and it will produce disappointing results.  Until this changes, Michaels is not the place to look for jewelry soldering supplies, and a beloved piece of jewelry or an expensive gemstone is not to be put at risk with this junk kit.

It is a nice kit but it would be better if it had a stand for the iron and some flux. It definitely isn’t a complete kit. It doesn’t even have the basic items needed to solder.

House Fire

The iron get way too hot and keeps destroying my copper tape- even with plenty of solder melted. It then in turn ruins the solder if you try to smooth it out. I have used this twice and it already looks like it's about to catch on fire. Very cheaply made and not appropriate for these projects.
