Project Instructions

Main House

Step 1 Cut house from sheet of 3" Styrofoam® as shown. Cut handle from 1" sheet and set aside. (Shaded area in design of house is cut back an additional ½", as shown.)

Step 2 Using clay tool or something similar, press indentations into Styrofoam® where dotted lines appear in design model and continue randomly on back side in same manner. (This “sculpting” adds depth to house.)

Step 3 Round off and smooth out indented areas.

Step 4 Press area in where door and windows will be (see design model shaded area). Use sandpaper, if needed, to smooth any areas that are too large to press away. (Refer to photo for further detail needs.)

Step 5 Break toothpick in half and dip into white glue. Stick toothpick into one end of vine then into top of house. Repeat for other end of vine and then attach to smaller portion of house.

Step 6 Apply two or three coats of MagiKote™ over entire piece, allowing to dry between coats. Sand with sandpaper to smooth piece before painting.

Step 7 Paint entire house Tiger Lily Orange. Let dry and brush on Marigold highlights.

Step 8 Paint as follows: windows, Deep Buttercup; door, vines around door and windows, windowpanes and attached vine, Very Berry; bushes: Mistletoe Green and highlight with Sweet Pea; door trim and berries on bushes, Holly Berry Red; doorknob, Deep Buttercup.

Village Market and Seed Shop

Step 1 Cut out market piece (See design.) Sand, as necessary, to get desired shape. Use scrap piece to cut out stalk for top of market, as desired.

Step 2 Run each Styrofoam® ball across sandpaper to flatten bottom.

Step 3 Carve pumpkin buildings with clay tool or something similar to create grooves and indent doors and windows.

Step 4 Cut small Styrofoam® piece for each shop sign, 1" for seed shop and 1¼" for market, as well as small ledge for windowsill. Press edges with fingers, to round off and smooth.

Step 5 Attach stalk, signs, and sill with ½ the toothpick dipped in white glue. (See design.)

Step 6 Apply two or three coats of MagiKote™. Let dry; sand smooth.

Step 7 Paint all Tiger Lily Orange, then highlight with Marigold. Paint stalk for market Very Berry, then brush with a little Holly Berry Red and Mistletoe Green.

Step 8 Paint windows Deep Buttercup and doors, Very Berry, then accent with Holly Berry Red.

Step 9 Add vines and outline corn and apple sign in window with Very Berry; add apples in store and outline on corn in Mistletoe Green and Sweet Pea.

Step 10 Attach small stalks on top of seed store by gently pushing twigs that have been dipped in white glue.

Market Accessories

Step 1 Cut 1"x½" rectangle out of ½" Styrofoam® sheet. Using fingers, pinch edges to smooth and compress sign.

Step 2 Taking 1" Styrofoam® ball, run one side across sandpaper to create flat spot to help sign stand erect.

Step 3 Use clay tool or something similar to push indentations into 1" ball to make it look like pumpkin with a pile of apples on top. (See photo.)

Step 4 Coat ball and rectangle with two or three coats of MagiKote™ and allow to dry. Sand pieces lightly to remove any bumps.

Step 5 Paint toothpick Holly Berry Red.

Step 6 Paint sign Tiger Lily Orange and then brush Holly Berry Red lightly around edges of sign. When dry, write “APPLES”, as shown, in Wrought Iron Black.

Step 7 Paint pumpkin Tiger Lily Orange and then highlight with Marigold.

Step 8 Paint top of pumpkin to look like apples, using Geranium Red. Outline apples with Wrought Iron Black.

Step 9 Assemble by dipping end in white glue then stick carefully into top of apples. Dip other side of toothpick into glue, as well, and stick carefully into sign.

Market Display

Step 1 Cut 1¾" square out of 1" Styrofoam® sheet. Cut angle, as shown above, at ½" center of top to ¼" from bottom. Cut bottom pedestal, as shown above.

Step 2 Using clay carving tool, indent area of facing to create dimensional effect of shelving. Use sandpaper to smooth all edges.

Step 3 Cover entire piece with two or three coats of MagiKote™ and allow to dry thoroughly. Sand lightly.

Step 4 Using brush that will best fit area, paint entire surface Very Berry.

Step 5 Paint indented area where shelf is located using Butternut, and add shelf again using Very Berry.

Step 6 Outline shelf and paint base with Wrought Iron Black. Paint items on shelf as shown in design using Fiesta Yellow for honey jars; Tiger Lily Orange for oranges; and Mistletoe Green streaked with Fiesta Yellow for watermelon.

Scarecrow

Step 1 Cut scarecrow body, according to design above, from ½" Styrofoam® sheet. From same sheet, cut 2¼"x 2" base, tapering upper edge as shown in diagram.

Step 2 Using clay tool or fingers push sides of body and base to smooth out and contour.

Step 3 On head, use tool to carve in lines similar to real pumpkin and smooth out.

Step 4 Sand, if necessary, any places that may be jagged.

Step 5 Using MagiKote™, cover each piece two or three times. Allow to dry. Sand again, if necessary, to smooth out.

Step 6 Paint head Tiger Lily Orange and highlight with Marigold.

Step 7 Paint shirt area Sunflower Yellow; pants, Deep Waterfall Blue; and details as shown, using same colors.

Step 8 Paint face and lines on shirt Wrought Iron Black.

Step 9 Paint base Very Berry.

Step 10 Use handle end of small brush to put hole in tips of both arms and legs. Put dot of glue and push small bundle of raffia in each. Trim raffia.

Step 11 Make bundle for behind scarecrow by cutting pieces of raffia approximately 3½" and tie together with another piece of raffia. Place toothpick in center and poke into base behind scarecrow. Attach stalk, signs, and sill, as shown, with ½ toothpick dipped in white glue.

Step 12 Apply two to three coats of MagiKote™, let dry; sand smooth.

Step 13 Paint everything Tiger Lily Orange; highlight with Marigold. Paint stalk Very Berry then brush with a little Holly Berry Red and Mistletoe Green.

Step 14 Paint windows Buttercup Yellow. Paint doors Very Berry, then accent with Holly Berry Red.

Step 15 Add details: Vines, outlined corn, and apple sign in window: Very Berry; apples in store and outline on corn, Mistletoe Green and Sweet Pea.

Step 16 Attach small stalks on top of seed store by gently pushing twigs that have been dipped in white glue.

Wagon with Hay

Step 1 Cut 1" Styrofoam® ball in half. Cut 1"x 1½" rectangle from ½" thick Styrofoam® sheet.

Step 2 Cut four additional pieces, measuring ¾"x½" for hay bales. Using clay tool, press indentation into center area of rectangle, as shown in design. On wheel, make indentations using clay tool to simulate pumpkin grooves. Using fingers, pinch and compress hay bales, smoothing them out. Sand, if necessary, or use fingers to press edges smooth.

Step 3 Coat each Styrofoam® piece with two to three coats of MagiKote™; allow to dry. Sand, if necessary, removing any bumps.

Step 4 Paint wagon Very Berry, followed by streaking small lines of Sunflower Yellow for accent.

Step 5 Paint hay Sunflower Yellow. Add details on hay bales with Pinecone Brown.

Step 6 Paint wheels Tiger Lily Orange and highlight with Sunflower Yellow.

Step 7 Assemble by dipping small twigs into white glue then pushing gently into front face of wagon. Attach wheels using ½ of toothpick on each, dipped first into white glue, then piercing toothpick into wagon. (Refer to design diagram above.)
