Following directions on the package, iron on your desired appliques to black bandanas, being careful to not get close to edge where it will be sewn.
With fronts together, sew red and black bandana together.
Sew second set of red and black bandanas together.
With opposite colors next to each other, sew both pieces together to create your square.
Press black backing fabric.
Cut batting to fit the sewn together piece.
Place batting between right sides of fabric and sewn bandana, like a sandwich.
Stitch all three pieces together, leaving a 12" opening to turn the piece.
Trim edges and turn right side out. Press lightly if needed, being careful to stay away from your appliques. With floss, stitch your opening closed with whipstitch.
Use large-eyed needle and floss to make ties where desired on blanket.
Stack buttons together and sew in center of blanket as shown.
