Project Instructions

step 1Large Rose:

Abbreviations and stitches:

SC single crochet DC double crochet

This rose is worked in two rows, the first creating spaces for the petals and the general spiral of the rose, the second working the petals in increasing sizes. The rose will then be rolled and sewn together.
step 2Ch 47. Round 1: Dc in the 5th chain from the hook, dc in same stitch. This creates your first "V" pair. **Ch 1, skip 1 chain, dc, ch 1, dc** in next chain. Repeat from ** to the end of the starting chain. This will create 21 "V" pairs, each consisting of 1 double crochet + chain 1 + double crochet, with a chain 1 over a skipped stitch in the starting chain. You will have a loose spiral at the end of this row. Ch 1 and turn.
step 3Round 2: into the first V pair, dc 5 times. Sc into same stitch. First shell made. Into the next V pair, sc, 5 dc, sc. Repeat 6 more times for a total of 7 shells, each consisting of a sc, 5 dc, sc. Continuing down the "V" pairs, crochet 7 shells, each consisting of a sc, 7 dc, sc. Crochet a final 7 shells, each consisting of a sc, 9 dc, sc.

Note: This will be tight! Fit those dc in there, the slight cupping of the shells will make for a nice petal in finished flower.
step 4At the end of the last 9 dc shell, finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing, approximately the same length as your finished work.

Beginning at the 5 shell end, gently roll up the rose, sewing to secure. (I like to make a slight cone shape, with the outer petals rising slightly higher than the inner petals.)
step 5Small rose – Make 3 flowers.

Abbreviations and Stitches:

SC single crochet DC double crochet

Note: As with large rose, this is worked in two rows, rolled and sewn together.
step 6Ch 17

Row 1: dc in the 5th chain from the hook, dc in same stitch. This creates your first "v" pair. **Ch 1, skip 1 chain, dc, ch 1, dc** in next chain. Repeat from * to the end of the starting chain. You will have 7 "V" pairs.

Ch 1 and turn.
step 7Row 2: Into the first V pair, dc 4 times, sc into the same stitch. First shell made.

Into the next V pair, sc, 4 dc, sc. Repeat once more for a total of 2 shells of 4 dc.

Repeat above with 6 dc (total of 2 shells).

Repeat above with 8 dc (total of 3 shells)

Finish off, leaving a tail as long as worked piece.

Roll the rose loosely and sew layers to secure.
step 8Spiral Rose – Make 5 flowers

step 26Assembly for the Bouquet

Tools:

20 gauge wrapped wire Wire cutters Hot glue gun and glue sticks (optional) Light green florist tape Ribbon Corsage pins
step 27Cut wires into 6"-8" lengths. Bend one end of each wire into a small hook shape. Thread the wire into the center of each flower, catching a small amount of yarn on the hook to secure.

(Optional: with a small amount of glue, glue the back of each flower to the wire for added strength.)

Using the florist tape, wrap around the wire stem and the yarn tail from the flower center.
step 28Group your wired flowers into a half-dome shape, bending the wire stems as needed. Cut ends of wires with cutters to a uniform length. Wrap entire handle in florist tape.

Starting at bottom of handle, wrap the bouquet with the ribbon of your choice, securing at the top with a corsage pin. Add a bow with long tails, and your beautiful bouquet is complete!
