Project Instructions

Step 1 Paint the wood appliqué Dark Brown (or Burnt Umber). Let dry.

Step 2 Sponge (or daub) Turquoise paint randomly onto the appliqué. Sponge (or daub) Gold Metallic paint. Let dry. Ink the edges with the Crushed Walnut stamp pad. Squeeze a drop of white Scribbles onto the center of the flowers. Set aside to dry.

Step 1 Place each letter face down on the smooth side of the cardstock and trace with a pencil.

Step 2 Remove letter and carefully cut out using an X-ACTO® knife.

Step 3 Crumple the paper in sections. Paper may tear when crumpling, but it can still be used. Flatten the paper out and sand the surface. Wipe paper down with a Dust Buddy®. Apply Mod Podge® to the back side of the paper and adhere to the letter. Press paper down to make sure the edges are sealed. If your paper is larger than the wood letter, let the glue dry and then sand the edges of the letter to clean up. NOTE: Olive Core’dinations® cardstock was used on the letter X, Wild Honey Core’dinations® cardstock was used on the Y and and Fired Brick Core’dinations® cardstock on the letter Z.

Step 4 Ink the edges and portions of the letter with the Antique Linen stamp pad.

Step 5 Brush another coat of Mod Podge® over the letter. Let dry.

Step 6 Glue ribbon of your choice across the letter.

Step 7 Ink just the edges of the letter with the Crushed Walnut stamp pad. Hot glue wood appliqué to the letter.

Paint wood appliqué pieces first, so that they have time to dry. Make sure that you have a very sharp blade when cutting out letters. Paper may tear when crumpling–don’t panic, you can still use it. Once Mod Podge® is dry on letters, you can sand the paper edges to clean up the edges. Refer to photo to assist with project. Have fun applying these cool techniques on wood letters using Core’dinations® Tim Holtz® & Ranger Distress Collection Cardstock, Ranger Distress Inks® and painted wood appliqués.
