amethyst and lava bead necklace

Make a statement with this gorgeous necklace – it’s overflowing with eye-catching details! Just look at that agate slice pendant, natural lava beads and a super-cool chain tassel. Just read below for instructions and a few video links that’ll make it extra easy!
Step 1
Use the jewelry cutters from the tool kit to cut the jump ring and lobster clasp from the Gold tassel.

TIP: You will not need the lobster clasp for this project, so you can tuck it away for a future project.
Step 2
Determine which end of the agate connector pendant you want as the top. Open the jump ring at the bottom, slide on the loop at the top of the Gold tassel and close the jump ring. Set aside.

TIP: Here’s the best way to open and close a jump ring: simply grasp the jump ring on both sides with chain nose pliers and twist the ring open, from side to side. Never pull the jump ring apart, since that can cause a distortion of the ring shape.
Step 3
To make the bead lava link above the agate connector pendant, thread a lava bead onto an eye pin. Form a simple wire loop above the bead.

TIP: To form a simple loop, first you’ll bend the wire to a 90° angle right above the bead. Trim the wire to about 3/8"-½" from the bend. Grasp the end of the eye pin wire with a pair of round nose pliers. Rotate the pliers toward you, keeping a firm grip on the wire, until a small loop is formed.
Step 4
Open the jump ring at the top of the agate connector pendant, slide on one of the loops that you made on the lava bead link, then close the jump ring again.
Step 5
Measure and cut 24" of the Gold stringing wire. Thread this through the top of the lava bead link and shift the bead link to the center of the stringing wire.
Step 6
Thread your beads onto the stringing wire in the order you like best. You can always use our photo as a guide.

TIP: The Bead Buddy® design board is a great tool to use when stringing beads. Its channels and measurements make it super-easy for you to plan your bead order.
Step 7
Next, you’ll measure and cut 14" of chain from one of the necklaces.

TIP: You do not need the closure part of the necklace, just the chain.
Step 8
Slide the last link at one end of the chain onto the stringing wire on one side of the necklace.
Step 9
Tie a knot at the top of the last bead, securing the chain to the necklace. Slide the tail of the stringing wire through the first bead, and tie a surgeon’s knot.
Step 10
Add a little glue to the knots and then thread the tail through a few adjacent beads. Pull at the tail until the knots are all hidden by beads, and then trim the tail’s end.

TIP: Use a toothpick when you’re adding glue to the knots. This will help you to get the glue exactly where you want it.
Step 11
Repeat Steps 8-10 to complete the other side of the necklace.
