bernat® blanket pet™ pet snuggle sack

Show your pet some handmade love by knitting up this super-cozy pet snuggle sack! It’s made with Bernat® Blanket Pet™ yarn, so it’s perfect for all your DIY pet projects. We’ve partnered with Brett Bara and Craftsy® to show you exactly how to make your own. Just check out the video and instructions to get started!
Step 1

Using the ‘Long Tail Cast On’ method, cast on 60 stitches.

Click here to view the diagram.

TIP: Here are the steps to cast on using this method:

  • Leave a long tail at the end of the yarn. The length of the tail depends on the number of stitches you want to cast on (for 60 stitches, leave about 6').
  • Tie a slip knot onto one needle and pull tight.
  • With your bottom three fingers, grab both pieces of yarn and hold them in your palm.
  • Take your index finger and thumb and push them through the two pieces of yarn.
  • Shift your thumb and forefinger backwards to pull the yarn tight.
  • Take the tip of your needle and pick up the bottom piece of yarn closest to your body.
  • Swing the needle around and under the yarn wrapped around your index finger.
  • Pull the needle through the loop of yarn on your thumb.
  • Release the yarn around your thumb.
  • Pull the yarn that’s closest to your body tight on the needle.
  • Repeat these steps until you have reached 60 stitches on your needle.
Step 2

Using a knit stitch, knit every row until your piece measures 15" long.

TIP: Here’s how to make the knit stitch:

  • Insert the right hand needle into the first loop on the left hand needle.
  • Cross the right hand needle behind the left.
  • Wrap the yarn around and then between the two needles.
  • Pull the yarn through by pulling the right hand needle.
  • Slip the stitch off the left hand needle.
Step 3

Once you have a flat 15" knitted piece, you’ll need to cast off -- and be sure to leave a long tail.

TIP: Here’s how to cast off:

  • Knit the first two stitches.
  • Insert the left needle into the first stitch.
  • Lift the first stitch over the second stitch.
  • Repeat until you finish the entire row.
Step 4
Now, take the long tail of yarn and thread it on to your tapestry needle.
Step 5
Next, fold the flat piece so that the two side edges meet, forming a tube.
Step 6
Finally, sew the two ends together using a whip stitch (or any seaming technique that you prefer).
