candy melts® candy cactus cupcakes

Gather your inspiration from the desert as you create these cacti-topped cupcakes. Cacti toppers are made with Wilton® Candy Melts® candy and our cacti patterns; cupcakes are iced in buttercream and covered in graham cracker crumbs to look like sand.
Step 1
Project Note: You will need 2½ cups of icing and 12 tbsp. of graham cracker crumbs for 12 cupcakes.
 
Prepare batter following the package instructions (or recipe). Bake in white baking cups and let cool.

Step 2
Combine 1 oz. Bright White and 1 oz. Dark Green candy. Melt and place in decorating bag. Separately melt 2 oz. Dark Green, 1 oz. Bright White. 1 oz. yellow, 1 oz. orange, 1 oz. Bright Pink candy and place in decorating bags. Tape cacti pattern to a cake board and cover with wax paper. 
Step 3
Make Candy Melts® candy cacti. Cut small openings in bags as you use them. Pipe all Dark Green areas; tap board lightly to smooth. Chill 10 minutes to set.  
Step 4
Pipe all large Light Green sections. Tap and chill.  
Step 5
Pipe smaller sections of Light Green; tap and chill.  
Step 6
Pipe white dashes and dots for spines. 
Step 7
Pipe orange and yellow beads for flowers. Chill 10 minutes to set. 
Step 8
Make buttercream icing. Combine brown and a touch of Golden Yellow to tint the brown icing color shown, and then use the angled spatula to ice cupcakes.

Step 9
Press graham cracker crumbs on top of icing. 
Step 10
Carefully remove candy cacti from wax paper and insert in tops of cupcakes.
