Canson® XL® Hardcover Watercolor Pad is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good for what it is intended. This paper is 90 lbs. If you are planning to paint anything that has a considerable amount of paint and moisture on it, anything less than 140 lbs will crumple like a tissue in the breeze. So yes, this paper buckles like no tomorrow if water even looks at it. However, it's an easy to use spiral-bound pad with lots of pages, so it is good for practice, swatches, and just mindless painting that's not meant to be anything. Buckled paper can be flattened again once dry,but buckling causes pools of water to form on the page and can result in uneven, blotchy finishes. Which is fine, if you don't mind or desire that effect. But if you don't, consider 140+ lb paper. I use both, this for practicing random things, new techniques, pre-sketches of paintings I want to try later, and new paints, and then I reserve the other, better quality paper for more finished pieces.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for mixed media! I have been using this notebook for mixed media art and it works great for a number of mediums! so far I've tried acrylic paint, charcoal, oil pastels, colored pencils, markers, and watercolor mediums. And the paper has worked very well for me. It's also very good for sketching since the paper is so smooth.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good Pages are good for watercolor and on the other side it is really nice with pencil. Pages are thick enough to not bend well eraseing but thin enough as to not take up too much space in the sketchbook. The only draw back is the fact that its not a very good cold press job.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Would not buy again. I am just a beginner, but I would not buy this paper again. Very poor quality. Pilled up very bad. I will only use this for practice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Daughter loves My daughter loves to draw and this is perfect for her! Not too big for her backpack and plenty of space for her to draw.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! I love the Canson XL watercolor sketch book! Works well and water doesn’t tear or make the pages soggy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for School I got this because I didn’t have time to sit down in my room and do large complicated paintings. But this lovely little sketchbook lets me paint while I’m at the library or in between classes. The paper also has a lovely texture to it and takes on a lot of water very well.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I was surpised at how badly it buckled I have a large tape bound pad of the canson XL watercolor paper and when I tried that out, it worked well so I didn't hesitate to purchase this spiral bound journal thinking it would be the exact same paper. When I went to try it tonight, man did it buckle everywhere anything wet touched it - which, obviously, is not usually a desirable quality in something marketed as a watercolor book. The paper is a lot thinner than the Canson XL watercolor paper I got in the tapebound pad. The only thing I do like about this book is the very hard front and back covers which make it easy to write and draw in. And I do like it's size at 5.5X8.5 the pages are not too small to draw in or so large that they are intimidating to fill. I will probably be using this for something other than watercolor though
