caron® baby cakes™ four corners knit blanket

Look at that baby!! That is one sweet baby…oh, were you asking about the blanket? Yes, this beautiful knit blanket is wonderful, too. It’s made from Caron® Baby Cakes™ yarn, so it has everything a baby loves: it’s incredibly soft to the touch, with lovely colors and (as you can see) irresistible oversized tassels. Try this color combination, called Coral Bells or choose from so many more that you’ll find online or in our stores.
Step 1
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: Approx. 38” square

GAUGE/TENSION: 17 sts and 36 rows = 4" in garter st

Project Notes:
   -  The number of Skeins needed to complete this project is 6 - Caron® Baby Cakes™ Yarn – Coral Bells
   -  This blanket is worked in four pieces from corner to corner.
   -  To maintain consistent color changes, always join the yarn at same color change when casting on each piece. This will help to ensure that the stripes match as closely as possible once the pieces are joined. Don’t worry about leaving leftover yarn! It’ll be used for edging and tassels on each corner, where it’s not necessary to match the stripe colors.

Follow the instructions below to make four pieces, all alike, as follows:

Cast on 2 sts (see Note). Working back and forth across needle in rows, proceed as follows:

Row 1: (RS). (Kfb) twice. 4 sts.

Row 2: Knit.

Row 3: K1. Kfb. Knit to last 2 sts. Kfb. K1.

Rep last 2 rows until piece measures 19" wide across side edge, ending on a WS row.
Beg Decreasing: Next Row: (RS). K1. K2tog. Knit to last 3 sts. ssk. K1.

Next Row: Knit.

Rep last row until there are 6 sts rem.

Next Row: K1. (K2tog) twice. K1. 4 sts.

Next Row: K4.

Next Row: (K2tog) twice. 2 sts.

Cast off, weave in your ends and trim away any excess yarn. Repeat to make the other three pieces for this blanket.
Step 2
FINISHING:

Sew all four pieces tog, matching stripes as closely as possible.

Edging: First Side: With RS facing, pick up and knit 162 sts evenly across the side edge of the blanket.

Knit 2 rows. Cast off knitwise (WS).

Second, Third and Fourth Sides: With RS facing, pick up and knit 165 sts evenly across the side edge of the blanket (including side of previous edging).

Knit 2 rows. Cast off knitwise (WS).

Tassel:  (You’ll make four of these tassels for the blanket.)
Cut a piece of cardboard that’s 4" [10 cm] wide. Wind your yarn around cardboard 50 times. Break the yarn, leaving a long end, and thread that end through a needle. Slip the needle through all of the loops at one end of the cardboard, and tie tightly. Remove the cardboard and wind the yarn tightly around the loops just about ½" [1.5 cm] below the fold at one end. Fasten your yarn securely. Cut through the rem loops at one end and trim them evenly. Fasten one tassel to each outer corner of the blanket.
