MEASUREMENTS: One size to fit average woman’s head GAUGE: 16 sts and 20 rows = 4" [10 cm] in Linen St Pat with size U.S. 11 (8 mm) needles INSTRUCTIONS: Note: For striping effect shown, work with 2 cakes throughout. Begin using each cake at different points in color transition to ensure contrasting colors. In most cases, this is achieved by working from the exterior of first cake and from interior of the second. If necessary to ensure color contrast, remove a single color from exterior of one cake, then set this yarn aside to be used as fringe. Alternate between these 2 cakes every 2 rows. With circular needle, cast on 56 sts. Join in rnd, being careful not to twist. Place marker for beg of rnd. 1st rnd: *K2. P2. Rep from * around. Rep 1st rnd until work measures 2" [5 cm] from beg. Inc rnd: *K7. Kfb. Rep from * around. 63 sts. Note: For striping effect shown, alt between using a strand from outside of cake and a strand from inside of cake, every 2 rnds. Pom-Pom: Wind yarn around 4 fingers, approx 150 times. Remove from fingers and tie tightly in center. Cut through each side of loops. Trim to a smooth round shape. Sew pom-pom to top of Hat.
