caron® x pantone™ bamboo lace fans crochet shawl

Crochet this Lace Fans Crochet Shawl with Caron® x Pantone™ Bamboo yarn! The bamboo makes this yarn light and breathable, not to mention the color-matched stunning palettes. Just pick your favorite skeins and take a look at the free pattern below to make your own cozy shawl!
Step 1

MEASUREMENTS: Approx. 32" [81.5 cm] deep x 54" [137 cm] long

GAUGE: 14 sc and 17 rows = 4" [10 cm]. Take time to check your gauge.

1 MOTIF: 6" [15 cm] wide and 3¾" [9.5 cm] tall

SPECIAL STITCH(ES) EXPLANATION(S):

   -  Quad Tr (Quadruple Treble): (Yoh) 5 times. Yoh and draw up a loop in indicated stitch or space. (Yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook) 6 times.


INSTRUCTIONS:

Notes:

   -  Before working with Caron® x Pantone Bamboo multi-shade yarn braid, separate each color link and wind into 5 separate balls.
   -  Each color link will be referenced by its Pantone # (see ball band).
   -  Designate each yarn ball Contrast, A, B, C, D and E as noted in Materials section (or as desired).
   -  Due to finite amount of yarn in each shade, pattern gauge must be matched to ensure successful results.


FIRST ROW OF MOTIFS

Basic Motif

Ch 6. Join with sl st to first ch to form a ring.

Row 1: (RS). Ch 10 (counts as Quad tr and ch 2). (Quad tr. Ch 2) 11 times in ring. Turn.

Row 2: Ch 1. 1 sc in first st. Ch 1. (1 sc in next ch-2 sp. Ch 3) 10 times. 1 sc in 9th of ch-10. Ch 1. 1 sc in 8th ch of ch-10. Turn.

Row 3: Ch 1. 1 sc in first st. Ch 3. Sl st in last sc – Picot made. [Ch 1. Skip next sc. (1 sc. Picot. Ch 1. 1 sc. Picot) in next ch-3 sp] 10 times. Ch 1. Skip next sc and ch-1 sp. 1 sc in last sc. Picot. Fasten off. 

Step 2

Second to Ninth Motifs

Ch 6. Join with sl st to first ch to form a ring. Work Rows 1 and 2 as given for Basic Motif. 

Row 3: Ch 1. 1 sc in first st. Ch 1. Sl st to corresponding Picot of adjoining Motif. Ch 1. Sl st in last sc – Joining picot made. Ch 1. Skip next sc. (1 sc. Joining picot. Ch 1. 1 sc. Joining picot) in next ch-3 sp. [Ch 1. Skip next sc. (1 sc. Picot. Ch 1. 1 sc. Picot) in next ch-3 sp] 8 times. Ch 1. Skip next sc and ch-1 sp. 1 sc in last sc. Picot. Fasten off.

 

SECOND ROW OF MOTIFS

Filling Spaces Between Motifs: With RS facing, join yarn with sl st to 4th picot of Right Motif. Ch 5. Sl to to4th picot of Left Motif. Turn. Ch 3. Sl st to next picot of the same Left Motif. Ch 5. 1 sc in ch-5 sp. Ch 5. Sl st to next picot of Right Motif. Turn. Ch 3. Sl st to next picot of the same Right Motif. Ch 3. (1 sc in next ch-5 sp. Ch 5. 1 sc in next ch-5 sp. Ch 3. Sl st to next picot of the Left Motif. Fasten off.

First Motif of Second Row

Row 1: (RS). Join corresponding color as color for Filling space between Motifs with sl st to ch-5 sp.

Work Rows 1 and 2 as given for Basic Motif.

Row 3: Ch 1. 1 sc in first st. Ch 1. Joining picot into 11th Picot of adjoining Motif of previous row. [Ch 1. Skip next sc. (1 sc. Picot. Ch 1. 1 sc. Picot) in next ch-3 sp] 10 times. Ch 1. Skip next sc and ch-1 sp. 1 sc in last sc. Joining picot into 12th Picot of next adjoining Motif of previous row. Fasten off. 

Step 3

Second to Eighth Motifs of Second Row

Row 1: (RS). Join yarn with sl st to ch-5 sp.

Work Rows 1 and 2 as given for Basic Motif.

Row 3: Ch 1. 1 sc in first st. Ch 1. Joining picot into 11th Picot of adjoining Motif of previous row. Ch 1. Skip next sc. (1 sc. Joining picot into corresponding Picot of adjoining Motif of same row. Ch 1. 1 sc. Joining picot into corresponding Picot of adjoining Motif of same row) in next ch-3 sp. [Ch 1. Skip next sc. (1 sc. Picot. Ch 1. 1 sc. Picot) in next ch-3 sp] 9 times. Ch 1. Skip next sc and ch-1 sp. 1 sc in last sc. Joining picot into 12th Picot of next adjoining Motif of previous row. Fasten off.

 

Following Diagram for Version 1 or Version 2, make all 45 Motifs, changing colors and joining Motifs as you go.

With RS facing, join rem colors in random order with sl st to side post of sc of first row of Motifs. Work 1 row of sc across long edge of Shawl. Fasten off.
