chalky paint chevron canvas reveal

Step 1
Begin by measuring and marking the canvas to tape. Measure 6" across the top and make a mark and then measure 6" across the bottom and make a mark. Place tape from mark to mark, centering the tape over the mark. Press the tape down onto the canvas.
Step 2
Down the center of the canvas, on the tape, measure and make a mark at 1½". Apply tape from the top left corner of the canvas to the mark. The top of the tape should line up with the mark. Repeat this for the opposite side of the canvas.
Step 3
On the left of the canvas, mark 2" from the bottom of the tape. On the center of the canvas, do the same. On the right side of the canvas, also mark 2" down. Place tape from the left mark to the center mark and a piece from the right mark to the center mark.
Step 4
On the left of the canvas, mark 1½" from the bottom of the tape. On the center of the canvas, do the same. On the right side of the canvas, also mark 1½" down. Place tape from the left mark to the center mark and a piece from the right mark to the center mark.
Step 5
On the left of the canvas, mark 1¼" from the bottom of the tape. On the center of the canvas, do the same. On the right side of the canvas, also mark 1¼" down. Place tape from the left mark to the center mark and a piece from the right mark to the center mark.
Step 6
On the left of the canvas, mark 1" from the bottom of the tape. On the center of the canvas, do the same. On the right side of the canvas, also mark 1" down. Place tape from the left mark to the center mark and a piece from the right mark to the center mark.
Step 7
On the left of the canvas, mark 3/4" from the bottom of the tape. On the center of the canvas, do the same. On the right side of the canvas, also mark 3/4" down. Place tape from the left mark to the center mark and a piece from the right mark to the center mark.
Step 8
Burnish all the tape down well. Pour out some of the Linen chalky paint onto the paper plate (or palette paper). Brush paint onto open canvas space and over the tape. This will help seal the tape to the canvas and ensure a crisp line when you paint on the colors. Let dry.
Step 9
Paint the open canvas space, using the other colors of chalky paint. Use the image as a guide or create your own pattern. Let dry.
Step 10
Remove the tape.
Step 11
Using sandpaper, sand over the painted areas to distress the paint. Brush off the dust and wipe down the canvas with a damp cloth.
