compass cradle board sign

If you’re looking to bring a little bit of the seashore to your home, all signs point to this project. Although we’ve got a few tips below, you won’t need much direction to stencil this elegant compass onto whitewashed wood!
Step 1
Lightly spray the back of the compass stencil with stencil adhesive, then stick it onto the center of the cradleboard, on its whitewashed side.

TIP: Use your finger to press down on the stencil, especially along the design’s edges. This is called burnishing and it’ll help you make sure the stencil is stuck fast to the wood, so that paint doesn’t seep underneath its edges.
Step 2
Dip the tip of your stencil brush into a puddle of paint, then brush off a little of the excess. Using quick up-and-down motions, dab the brush onto the open part of the stencil design, working from the edges inward. Keep going until the design’s completely covered with paint.
Step 3
While the paint’s still wet, carefully peel up the stencil to remove it. Let your sign dry and it’s ready to hang!
