Step 1
Using the size H (5.0 mm) hook, ch 13 and sl st into the first ch to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 1 and sc into each ch around the ring. Sl st to close.
Rnd 2: Rep Rnd 1.
Rnd 3: Rep Rnd 1.
Rnd 4: Ch 2 (counts as 1st dc in the rnd), sk 1. Dc into the next 2 sts, hdc in next st, sc in the next 6 sts, hdc in next st, dc in next 2 sts, sl st to close.
Rnd 5: Rep Rnd 4.
Step 2
Rnd 6: Ch 2, dc in the same st (counts as 2 dc in the first st). Dc twice into the next st, dc in the next st, hdc in the next st, sc in the next 6 sts, hdc in the next st, dc in the next st, dc twice into the final st, sl st to close.
Rnd 7: Ch 3 and trc into the same st, trc twice into the next st, dc twice into the next st, dc in the next st, hdc in the next st, sc into each of the next 5 sts, hdc in the next st, dc in the next st, dc twice into the next st, trc twice into the next st, sl st to close.
Step 3

Rnd 9: Ch 2, dc twice into the next st, dc in the next st, dc twice into the next st, *(dc in the next st, dc twice into the following st.). Rep from * so that you are making two dc in every other st, until you have reached the beginning of the rnd. Sl st into the 2nd ch to complete the rnd.
Step 4
Rnd 10: Ch 2 and dc into the same st (this counts as 2 dc). Dc once into each of the next 4 sts. Dc twice into the next st. *(Dc in the next 4 sts, dc twice into the following st.) Rep from * so that you are making two dc in every 5th st. Dc once into the final st, then sl st into the 2nd ch to complete the rnd.
Rnd 11: (This will be your final round in Impeccable™ yarn.) Ch 2, then dc into each st in the rnd. Sl st into 2nd ch to close the rnd. Knot off and trim the yarn.
Switch to your L (8.0 mm) hook and Cozy Wool™ yarn for the remainder of this project.
Step 5
Row 1: Working from the wrong side (inside) of your piece, count 6 sts from the beg (ch 2) of Rnd 11. Sl st to join Cozy Wool™ to your work at the 6th st. Sc once into the next st and in ea of the next 32 sts. You should now be 6 sts away from the end of the previous rnd. Sl st into the 34th st and turn.
Row 2: Now, you will work from the right side (outside) of your piece. (Note: All rows with popcorn stitches will be worked on this side.) Sl st into the next st. Sc into the next st. Hdc into the next st. Dc into the next st. Make your first popcorn stitch in the following st. (See Step 1 for detailed instructions on how to make a popcorn stitch.) *(Dc once into each of the next 3 sts, make a popcorn st into the next st.) Rep from * across the row. After you complete the 7th popcorn st in the row, dc once into the next st, hdc into the next st, sc into the next st, sl st in the next st, and turn.
Step 6
Row 3: Sl st into the next st. Sc into each st across the row. Sl st into the final st, turn.
Row 4: Sl st into the first st. Sc into the next st, dc once into each of the next 3 sts. *(Make a popcorn st in the next st, dc once into each of the next 3 sts.) Rep from * across the the row until you have completed 6 popcorn stitches. Dc once into each of the next 2 sts, sc into the next st. Sl st into the final st and turn.
Row 5: Ch 1, then sc across the row into each st. When you reach the end of the row, turn.
Step 7
Row 6: Ch 2, then dc once into each of the next 2 sts. Make a popcorn st in the next st. *(Dc once into each of the next three sts. Make a popcorn st into the following st.) Rep from * until you have completed 7 popcorn sts. Dc once into each of the final 2 sts, and turn.
Row 7: Rep Row 5.
Row 8: Ch 2, sk the next st (counts as the first dc) and dc once into each of the next 3 sts. Make a popcorn st into the next st. *(Dc once into each of the next three sts. Make a popcorn st into the next st.) Rep from * until you have completed 6 popcorn sts. Dc once into each of the final 4 sts, and turn.
Step 8
Row 9: Ch 1, and sc once into each stitch in the row, until you reach the first dc st between popcorn sts in the previous row. Decrease your sts by one: Yo hook and insert hook into the loops at the top of the previous row’s first dc between popcorn sts, as you normally would when making a dc. Pull the loop through the st, leaving three loops on the hook. Yo again, and pull through two of the loops on the hook, leaving two loops on the hook. Yo hook, insert hook into the loops at the top of the next st, yo hook again, and pull through the st, leaving 4 sts on the hook. Yo hook again, and pull through three of the loops on the hook, leaving two. Yo hook once more, and pull through the remaining two loops on the hook. You have now decreased sts by one. Continue to sc across the row, decreasing sts by one between popcorn sts from the previous row. Sc into the final st, then turn. Sc x 1 across, but reduce x 1 st in between popcorn sts.
Step 9
Row 10: Ch 2, dc into the next st. Popcorn st into the next st. *(Dc once into each of the next two sts. Popcorn st into the next st.) Rep from * until you have completed 7 popcorn sts. Dc once into the final st, and turn.
Row 11: Rep Row 5.
Row 12: Ch 2, dc once into each of the next two sts, make a popcorn st in the next st, dc once into each of the next 2 sts, make a popcorn st in the next st, dc once into each of the next 2 sts, make a popcorn st in the next st, dc into the next st, hdc into the next st, sc into the next st, sl st into the next st, sc into the next st, hdc into the next st, dc into the next st, make a popcorn st in the next st, dc once into each of the next 2 sts, make a popcorn st in the next st, dc once into each of the next 2 sts, and turn.
Row 13: Ch 1, sc into each st across the row. When you reach the end of the row, sl st into the first st of the row. This will connect the two sides of the cozy underneath the teapot’s handle, leaving a gap for the handle itself to stick out.
Step 10
Finishing: Ch 1 and sc into each st around the bottom of the tea cozy (48 sts total). Sl st into the first ch, knot off your yarn, trim and weave in any remaining tails.
Make a closure under the teapot’s handle by adding a button and a loop: Use a needle and thread to sew a button onto the cozy between the final two popcorns on the left hand side of the handle’s opening. Add a loop on the right hand side of the opening using Cozy Wool™ and your L hook. Sl st onto the st on the right hand side of the opening, directly opposite the button you have sewn on. Ch 3, then sl st again into the same st to secure the loop. Knot, trim and weave in the ends of the yarn.
Use a needle and thread to sew buttons for the hedgehog’s eyes. Sew each button onto Rnd 9, made with Impeccable™ yarn, placing them equidistant from the teapot’s spout. Use the image as a guide.
Slip your cozy over your teapot, then button it shut underneath the handle.
