Beginner
You're new to the skills necessary to complete this project, or maybe you've tried them just once or twice before.
Step 1 |
- Use sandpaper to rough up the frames to let some of the wood show through the paint. This will give them more of a rustic look. Set aside. - Use one of the backer papers from the frame to trace around on the canvas paper, and cut to size. - Freehand draw or download the pattern for the words from michaels.com. Center and trace the words onto the cut canvas paper. TIP: If you do not have good lighting (or a light box) to be able to see through the canvas paper, you can use a window in daytime or graphite paper beneath the pattern to trace the words. |
Step 2 |
- Thread the needle with all strands of the chosen color of embroidery floss. Stitch the word with the back stitch (or outline stitch), hiding the loose ends of the embroidery in the back. Do not tie a knot. TIP: Use an embroidery hoop if it makes it easier for you. - When finished embroidering, put the canvas paper face down on the ironing board and cover with an ironing cloth (or towel). Iron until the design is flat. - Place the embroidered canvas paper in the frame with backer paper. Share your project photos with #MadeWithMichaels |
