flamingo flower vase and planter

Loving the flamingo trend? Of course! That’s why you simply have to make this super-cute flamingo vase and planter out of FIMO® air-drying clay. We’ll show you how to mold it and paint it, then you decide what you’ll put inside.
Step 1
First, roll out the air dry clay until it’s ¼" thick. Turn your ceramic bowl upside-down and carefully lay the sheet of rolled-out clay over it. Use your hands to press the clay onto the ceramic bowl, making sure that the entire bowl is covered with clay. Use a craft knife to cut off any excess clay that overlaps the top edge.
Step 2
Take the excess clay and use it to shape two separate wings. With your craft knife, crosshatch the clay on opposite sides of the bowl, then spritz these spots with a bit of water. Press the clay wings onto the bowl at the crosshatched spots and use your wet fingers to smooth their edges, and make sure they’re fully attached to the clay that’s covering the bowl.
Step 3
Next, roll a medium-sized piece of clay into a log shape, then shape it into your flamingo’s neck and head. Let this piece set for an hour, so that it hardens a little. Then, press the neck into the flamingo bowl at its top edge, spaced evenly between the two wings. Use water and your fingers to smooth the neck into the clay, and make sure it’s fully attached. Prop up the neck so it won’t droop, and let the clay dry.

TIP: It’ll take 1-2 days for your flamingo bowl to dry completely, depending on the humidity.
Step 4
Use a brush to paint your flamingo all over with Carnation paint. Let dry.
Step 5
Paint the beak with Simply White paint and then the tip with Onyx paint. Don’t forget to add two little black dots for eyes, too!

TIP: Once the paint is dry, you can add fresh flowers in water (or even dirt and/or rocks).
