gilded pineapple

We turned this pretty ceramic pineapple into royalty, just by adding a crown of gold. It’s easier than you think – get a little gilding and brush it on. Now, you’ve got a pineapple that’s fit for a queen!
Step 1
Rip small strips of masking tape and place it around the base of the pineapple's leafy top. This will make cleanup easier.
Step 2
Before you even open it, shake the heck out of your container of liquid gilding. The key to liquid gilding is making sure it’s well-blended, so shake, shake, shake.

TIP: When you open the container and the liquid gilding’s all one color, you know you’ve done it right!
Step 3
Dip your paintbrush into the liquid gilding, then brush it onto the stem of the pineapple. Keep doing this a bit at a time, until the stem’s completely covered by liquid gilding. Then, give the liquid gilding time a little time to dry. That’s it!

TIP: If you want to keep your paintbrush, be sure to clean it (and any little drips or spills) with turpentine. Water alone won’t be enough to remove the liquid gilding.
