Rated 5 out of 5 by from ❌ ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL COLORED PENCILS! ❌ Presentation & Packaging: 10/10 Usability & Durability: 10/10 Blending & Layering: 10/10 Pigmentation & Lay-down: 9/10 Color Selection: 10/10 There really are no words in the English language to describe how awesome these pencils are. The packaging and storage container is impressive as they come in 3 "books" with 10 pencils per "book". The casing is attractive in shiny white lacquer (improving the grip on the pencil) with the color of the pencils on the ends. I own an extensively large colored pencil collection which includes Prismacolor, Prismacolor Verithin, Faber-Castell Polychromos, Caran D` Ache Pablo, Derwent Coloursoft & Studio, Marco Renior & Raffine, Koh-I-Noor, Pentel, and Reeves-- this is what I based my comparisons off of-- The cores are hard, much like the Prismacolor Verithin and the Marco Raffine pencils. However, the pigmentation and volume titles on each 10 pencil groupings, is extremely true to the color on the end of the pencil. When the "book" or volume is title "Pale"-- pigmentations are pale and seemingly very transparent. If the volume is title "Intense"-- the pigments are very true to that as well. I've seen some negative reviews asserting that they color is hard to lay-down and has "no vibrancy, intensity, and is dull". Well, that depends on what volumes you get! With THIS set, they are titled "Pale I", "Vivid I" and "Deep I". Other volumes read "Florescent", "Light Grayish", and "Dull". Therefore, the title is what you get. These pencils blend like a dream. They blend and layer flawlessly and seemingly effortlessly! I could seamlessly blend without even using a blender or mineral oil. I was also able to layer and layer colors with little to no wax bloom. The color is smooth when it's lay-down on the surface with no scratchy texture with evenness throughout the application. The intensity of the colors also greatly depends on the pressure applied. Don't let the negative reviews outweigh your interest in purchasing these, or ANY set of the Irojitens! The hype about these pencils is 100% true. They're absolutely wonderful. I'm extremely satisfied with this purchase and would definitely recommend to anyone. NOTE: There seems to be alot of confusion and misunderstanding to the marketing strategy and overall theme of how these are sold, therefore-- to my understanding, the ENTIRE collection of 90 pencils is called "The Colour Dictionary". The dictionary is broken down into sets of 30 (which are sold that way), and then further broken down into smaller sets of 10. While each set of 30 don't have official titles, many are dubbing them as "Woodlands", "Jungle", and "Seascape" in reference to the color selections within. Now, each set of 10 pencils (sold as 3 sets of ten, bundled to make 30 total) has a title on the front of the "book" to describe the selected colors inside, i.e "Pale I", "Florescence", "Dull" etc. These titles hold VERY true to the intensity and vibrancy of the colors. I would recommend looking at the entire color chart of the 90 pencils and seeing what set of 30 would adapt best to your needs, as they all seem to vary with no recognizable theme to each set of 30.
