kids club® kawaii paper kite

Step 1
Click here to download and print the template. Cut out shapes.
Step 2
Overlap the kite patterns by ¼" and tape together.
Step 3
Fold a piece of construction paper in half the long way. Repeat on another color of construction paper.
Step 4
Lay the half kite pattern on top, with the long side of the pattern to the fold edge. Trace the pattern. Repeat on the other piece of paper. Cut out the kites.
Step 5
ADULT: Use a hand punch to make the hole, as indicated on the pattern, for both kite shapes.
Step 6
Open the kite and inside the folded area, lay a 12" dowel along the fold and glue to the crease.
Step 7
On the same kite, glue two skinny sticks slightly below the holes that were punched out by the adult.
Step 8
Cut a piece of yarn about two feet long and glue it to the bottom point of the kite.
Step 9
Positon the second kite on top and glue the crease and edges to hold the two together. The kite should have a bend from the fold, as this shape helps the kite fly. Set kit aside to dry.
Step 10
To make the swirl pattern, cut a 2" circle out of a sticky-back foam sheet.
Step 11
Make a swirl shape into the circular piece of foam by pushing into the foam with a pencil. Repeat to make sure the pattern is deep into the foam.
Step 12
Peel the sticky foam off the circle foam and attach it onto a second piece of foam.
Step 13
Draw a Kawii face onto the kite and glue on wiggle eyes. Let dry.
Step 14
Lightly brush paint onto of the circle swirl foam and stamp it onto the kite, and embellish the kite. Let dry.
Step 15
Trace and cut out bows onto contruction paper.

TIP: Make sure to have two of each color.
Step 16
Position the bows along the kite tail and glue them back-to-back with the string in between.
Step 17
Cut out a piece of yarn about 4' and thread it through the holes on the kite. Tie a knot on the top side that bends outward. Tie another knot at the ends of the yarn. This is the string to fly the kite.
