kids' paper ornaments
Get into the holiday spirit with these whimsical Christmas ornaments.
Step 1 |
Tear two pieces of paper from the Creatology™ Mixed Media paper pad. |
Step 2 |
Pour a small amount of the Tuscan Red and Holiday Green acrylic paint onto the paper plate. |
Step 3 |
Using a foam pouncer, dab into the Tuscan Red acrylic paint and make dots on one side of both sheets of paper. Repeat with the Holiday Green acrylic paint. Let dry. |
Step 4 |
Print the circle pattern from www.michaels.com. Cut out. |
Step 5 |
Trace the circle pattern onto the dried paint-dotted paper and cut out the circles. You will need six circles for each ornament. |
Step 6 |
Fold each circle in half with the painted side in. Set aside. |
Step 7 |
Cut a 1½" x 2" piece of cardboard. |
Step 8 |
Cut a 12" piece of red floss for one ornament. Set aside. |
Step 9 |
To make the tassel, wrap floss from the skein around the long side of the 1½" x 2" piece of cardboard, about 15-20 times. |
Step 10 |
Slide floss off the cardboard, making sure to keep it all together. |
Step 11 |
Hold the floss loop in one hand and thread the 12" piece of floss through one end of the loop. On this end of the loop, wrap floss directly from the skein tightly, several times around the loop, about ¼" from the top. Knot. Trim excess. |
Step 12 |
Tie the ends of the 12" red floss together to make the hanger. |
Step 13 |
Cut the bottom looped ends of the wrapped floss. |
Step 14 |
Place the white folded half of a circle against the folded half of a second circle and glue together. Continue to glue the half circles back to back to form an ornament. Before gluing the last two pieces together, place the 12" red floss in the center spine of the ornament, with tassel toward the bottom and the 12" loop coming from the top. Glue the last two pieces together. |
