layered crystal necklace

Step 1
Project Notes: This is a three-strand layered necklace. Each ball chain necklace is only 18" in length. The length can be adjusted to suite personal preference by adding jump rings. For best visual results, be sure the space between crystals is, and each chain layer is, as close to even as possible. If desired, the necklace can be worn as one necklace with all three strands connected or each necklace can be worn individually by adding jump rings to the existing clasp to add length.

Step 1 Attach two 6 mm jump rings to the back of a small crystal, one on each side, using chain nose pliers. Grasp each side of the jump ring with chain nose pliers and simply twist open the jump ring, using a back and forth motion.

TIP: To avoid distorting the jump ring, never pull the jump ring out, always twist.
Step 2
Step 2 Slide the 18" ball chain necklace through the jump rings on the small crystal so that the crystal rests at the middle of the chain. Lay necklace flat on table and set aside.

Step 3 Attach two more 6 mm jump rings to a medium-sized crystal. Slide another ball chain necklace through the jump rings on the medium crystal so that it hangs in the center of the chain.

Step 4 Remove the clasp from the necklace chain in Step 3 using chain nose pliers. Open the small jump rings that hold the clasp onto the necklace to remove. Set clasp aside.

Step 5 Attach two small 4 mm Silver jump rings to each end of the necklace chain where the clasp used to be. Lay necklace flat on table and set aside.
Step 3
Step 6 Attach two more 6 mm jump rings to a large crystal. Slide the crystal onto the remaining ball chain necklace.

Step 7 Remove the clasp from the necklace and attach five small 4 mm jump rings on each end of the necklace chain.

Step 8 To connect all three chains together, lay each necklace flat on the table and layer them from smallest to largest (by size of crystal).

TIP: To avoid the layers getting tangled when worn, be sure to leave space  between  layers so that the crystal has room to hang freely.
Step 4
Step 9 Open the last jump ring on each end of the second necklace chain and hook them onto the small jump ring on each end of the first necklace chain (with the clasp). The first and second layers should now be connected.

Step 10 To connect the third layer, open the last jump ring on each end of the necklace chain and hook these onto the last jump ring on each end of the second necklace layer. All three layers should now be connected.

Step 11 If needed, add more jump rings to add length.
