lion brand® ice cream® big scoop® star bright crochet blankie

Your baby’s a star and there’s only one blankie that’ll do! This gorgeous little ripple blanket won’t take long to crochet, and we’ve included a few diagrams that’ll help you as you work. When you’re finished, you’ll have the softest, brightest blankie for your little luminary.
Step 1
MEASUREMENTS: When finished, this blankie has a diameter of about 40" (101.5 cm) across from one peak to the opposite valley, or about 28" (71 cm), not including peaks.

GAUGE: 16 dc + 9 rnds = about 4" (10 cm). Please be sure to check your gauge.

STITCH EXPLANATIONS:

Beg-Cl (Beg Cluster) Ch 3, yarn over, insert hook in indicated st and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook (2 loops rem on hook); yarn over, insert hook in same st and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook.

Cl (3 Double Crochet Cluster) Yarn over, insert hook in indicated st, yarn over and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook (2 loops rem on hook), (yarn over, insert hook in same st, yarn over and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice; yarn over and draw through all 4 loops on hook.

Cl-V (Cluster V-Stitch) Work (Cl, ch 3, Cl) in the indicated sp.

Rev Sc (Reverse Single Crochet) Single crochet worked from left to right (right to left, if left-handed). Insert hook into next stitch to the right (left), under the loop on the hook, and draw up a loop. Yarn over and draw through all loops on hook.

PROJECT NOTES:
   -  This star-shaped blankie is worked in a ripple pattern in joined rnds with RS always facing you.
   -  The ripple pattern is easy to do, but it’s important to remember that you may need to work several rnds before the ripples can be clearly seen.
   -  The ripple pattern consists of alternating peaks and valleys. Peaks are formed by working Cl-V in the ch-3 sp of the Cl-V's in the previous rnd. Valleys are formed by skipping the 2 dc centered between two peaks.
   -  Beginning on Rnd 5, stitch markers are used to mark the valleys. Markers are optional! If you are comfortable "reading" your stitches, you may choose not to use the markers.
   -  For those who find visuals helpful, we have included stitch diagrams.
