Very lightweight, doesn't weigh down the artwork
This is perfect for using with stencils in Art Journaling where weight makes a huge difference. It's also perfect for doing any kind of texture in Art Journals and mixed media pieces.
Its the right consistency to work well with stencils and hold the shape,of the design. You do have to lift the stencil, off the paper carefully after you have applied the modeling paste so you don't smear the design.
It mixes well with different media to make colored modeling paste. I have used acrylic inks, acrylic paints of various weights, powdered pastels, alcohol inks ( in small amounts ) watercolors and charcoal to color the modeling paste. Everything I have tried worked well and didn't affect the performance of the product.
It's also flexible enough that when it's used on paper, in an Art Journal, it doesn't crack or flake with all the page turning and flexing of the paper. It really sticks to the papers very well.
I work mostly on various papers Including gessoed watercolor paper so that's what I have used this product on. I have not used it on canvas or wood supports. Just paper.
The only drawback is it does dry very fast especially in thin applications. So whatever tools you are using with this, wash them quickly! Once it's dry it's difficult to,remove from palette knives , stencils etc.
This applies to the paper too, as long as its wet, you can scrap off any mistakes you might have made and just re apply it....
I have not used this to build up thick layers so I don't know how it performs when applying it thickly. And I haven't tried carving back into ,the dry modeling paste.
There is a huge difference in weight between this product and the regular modeling paste ! You won't believe how light this is!
I honestly can't see any use at all for the regular heavy modeling paste!
Get a small container and try it out. I like this stuff so much and use so much of it that I buy it in the largest containers available!
