Project Note: The number of Skeins needed to complete this project is 1 - Loops & Threads® Appalachia Yarn – Asheville 

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: Circumference = 18"

GAUGE: 14 sts x 24 rows = 4"; save time and check your gauge
 
 
SPECIAL STITCHES:
Cable Pattern – Multiple of 8 sts

Rnd 1: * P1, sl 2 sts to cable needle and hold to back, k2, k2 from cable needle, p1, k2; rep from * to end.

Rnds 2, 3 and 4: * P1, k4, p1, k2; rep from * to end.

Rnd 5: * P1, sl 2 sts to cable needle and hold to front, k2, k2 from cable needle, p1, k3; rep from * to end.

Rnds 6, 7 and 8: * P1, k4, p1, k2; rep from * to end.
 
Rep Rnds 1-8 for pattern.
 

INSTRUCTIONS:
Using circular needle, cast on 70 sts. Place marker for beginning of round and join to work in the round.

Rnds 1-5: * P1, k3, p1, k2; rep from * to end.

Rnd 6: * P1, k1, m1, k2, p1, k2; rep from * to end – 80 sts.
 
Begin working Cable Pattern. Work Rnds 1-8 of Cable Pattern 3 times, then work Rnds 1-6 of Cable Pattern again.  
Step 2
Shape Crown
Note: Change to double pointed needles when stitches no longer fit around circular needle.

Rnd 1: * P1, k4, p1, k2tog; rep from * to end – 70 sts.

Rnd 2: * P1, k4, p1, k1; rep from * to end.

Rnd 3: * P1, k2tog, k2, p1, k1; rep from * to end – 60 sts.

Rnd 4: * P1, k3, p1, k1; rep from * to end.

Rnd 5: * P1, k2tog, k1, p1, k1; rep from * to end – 50 sts.

Rnd 6: * P1, k2, p1, k1; rep from * to end.

Rnd 7: * P1, k2tog, p1, k1; rep from * to end – 40 sts.

Rnd 8: * P1, k1; rep from * to end.

Rnd 9: * P1, k1, k2tog; rep from * to end – 30 sts.

Rnd 10: * P1, k2; rep from * to end.

Rnd 11: * K2tog, k1; rep from * to end – 20 sts.

Rnd 12: K2tog 10 times – 10 sts.
 
Break yarn. Use tapestry needle to draw yarn through remaining sts and pull tight to close top of hat.
 
Fasten off.
 
Finishing: Make pom pom according to instructions that come with your pom pom maker. Sew pom pom to top of hat.
 
Weave in ends. Block gently.
