Step 2
Instructions:
Ch 5 and sl st into the first ch to form a ring. If you prefer, begin by making a magic circle instead.

Rnd 1: Ch 2. (Together these will count as your first dc.) Dc 2, working into the ring itself. Ch 1. * Dc 3, working into the ring, then ch 1. Rep from * twice more, so that you have four clusters with 3 dc each, separated by 1 ch. Sl st into the 2nd ch of your first cluster to close the round.

Rnd 2: Turn your work so that the wrong side is facing you. The sp created by your last ch 1 in the previous round will be almost directly underneath your hook. Sl st into that sp, then ch 2. (Again, these will count as your first dc.) Dc 2, working into the same sp. Ch 1, then dc 3 more times into the same sp – these two clusters create the corner for your square. * Sk the next cluster of sts, and dc 3 into the next ch 1 sp, ch 1, then dc 3 more times into the same sp. Rep from * two more times. Now, you have completed the four corners of your square. Sl st into the 2nd ch of your first cluster to close the round.

Rnd 3: Turn your work again so that the sp between two clusters is just below your hook. Sl st into this sp, then ch 2. Dc 2 more times into the same sp. Sk the next cluster of sts, and dc 3 into the next ch 1 sp, which is in the corner of your square. Ch 1, then dc 3 more times into the same sp. * Sk the next cluster of sts, and dc 3 into the ch 1 sp. Sk the following corner and dc 3 into the next ch 1 sp, at the corner. Ch 1, then dc 3 more times into the same sp. Rep from * two more times to complete the round. Sl st into the 2nd ch of your first cluster to close the round.

Rnds 4-9: Rep Rnd 3, making sure to dc 3 into each ch 1 space from the round before, except for the corner spaces, where you will (dc 3, ch 1, dc 3) into the space. Always sl st into the 2nd ch of your first cluster to close the round.

Rnd 10: For the final row, you will work into the stitches themselves along the blanket sides, not just the ch 1 spaces between each cluster. Ch 2 without turning. Sk the first st, and dc 1 into each st as you work. * When you reach the corner sp, (dc 3, ch 1, dc 3) into the ch 1 sp, just as you did for the previous rows. Continue to dc 1 into each st along the side of the blankets, switching to (dc 3, ch 1, dc 3) at each corner. When you reach the beginning of the round, sl st into the 2nd ch to close the round.
Step 3
Finishing: Knot off your yarn and weave the ends into the blanket. Trim if necessary. Repeat for the yarn tail at the center of the blanket where you began.
