loops & threads® copenhagen™ checkerboard knit pullover

This adorable checkerboard knit pullover sweater is so soft and warm! We’ll show you how to easy it is to knit up your own with Loops & Threads® Copenhagen™ yarn. Just check out the free pattern in the instructions and stock up on your favorite colors to get started!
Step 1

SIZES: X-Small (Small, Medium, Large, X-Large)

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: Bust = 39" (45", 51", 57", 63") and Length = 26" (27", 28", 29", 29½")

GAUGE: 8 sts x 11 rows = 4"; save time and check your gauge


Project Note:
The number of Skeins needed to complete this project is 4 (5-5-6-6) - Loops & Threads® Copenhagen™ Yarn – Rainy Day (sku 10557777)


SPECIAL STITCHES:

  • Checkerboard (multiple of 6 sts + 3)
  • M1 (Make 1): Insert left needle from front to back under horizontal strand of yarn lying between st just worked and next st, knit or purl this st through the back loop (1 st inc’d).

NOTE: The pullover is made in pieces and sewn together. The front and back are identical, with a boat neck finish. This project is intended to have an oversized fit. Pick a size 6"-8" larger than your actual measurements.

 

INSTRUCTIONS:

Rows 1 and 3: K3, *p3, k3; rep from * across.

Row 2: P3, *k3, p3; rep from * across.

Repeat Rows 1-3 for pattern.

TIP: Row 1 will alternate between being a RS and WS row with each repeat.


Front/Back (Make 2)

Cast on 39 (45, 51, 57, 63) sts.

Work in checkerboard pattern for 17".

At beginning of next 2 rows bind off 4 (4, 4, 5, 5) sts – 31 (37, 43, 47, 53) sts.

Continue in checkerboard pattern, keeping remaining stitches in pattern as established, until piece measures 26" (27", 28", 29", 29½"), ending with Row 2 of pattern.

Bind off, firmly, following Row 3 of checkerboard pattern.


Sleeve (Make 2)

Cast on 21 (21, 27, 27, 27) sts.

Mark the 2nd row of the sleeve as the RS of the work.

Work in checkerboard pattern for 2½", ending with a WS row.

Increase Row: Work 2 sts, m1, work in pattern to last 2 sts, m1, work 2 sts – 2 sts increased.

Repeat Increase Row every 4th row 7 (9, 8, 10, 11) more times, working new stitches into checkerboard pattern – 37 (41, 45, 49, 51) sts.

Work in checkerboard pattern without increasing until sleeve measures 20" (21", 21", 22", 23").

Bind off.


Finishing:

Sew shoulders by sewing the front and back together 2" (3", 4½", 4½", 6") from each armhole, leaving the center 11½" (12½", 12½", 13½", 13½") open for the neck.

Sew sleeves into armholes.

Sew sleeve seams.

Sew side seams.

Weave in ends.
