loops & threads® loops™ zig zag throw

Take some time to make a lovely zig zag throw! This soft textured blanket is worked in a chevron pattern, but you won’t need a hook or needles when you make it with Loops™ yarn. It’s easy! Just pick out your favorite colors and check out the pattern below!
Step 1

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: 42" x 58".

GAUGE: 5½ sts x 6 rows = 4" measured flat, each 13-loop chevron = 7" wide.

SPECIAL STITCHES:

  • LK (Loop Knit): Reach through the next loop on your project, from front to back, then grab the next loop on your yarn and pull it through.
  • LP (Loop Purl): Reach through the next loop on your project, from back to front; grab the next loop on your yarn and pull it through.
  • LDR (Loop Decrease Right): Stack the next 2 loops on your project together with the 2nd loop in front of the 1st loop. Reach through both these loops, front to back, then grab the next loop on your yarn and pull it through.
  • LDL (Loop Decrease Left): Stack the next 2 loops on your project together with the 1st loop in front of the 2nd loop, reach through both these loops, front to back, then grab the next loop on your yarn and pull it through.
  • Increase: Increase by skipping the next loop on your yarn and working the next LK or LP with the following loop. On the next row work this skipped loop as directed.

PATTERN NOTES:

  • Rows are worked either right to left, or left to right, always with the right side of the work showing. You do not turn your project over at the end of the row unless directed.
  • Change colors by working the first loop of the row with by pulling both the next loop of the previous color and the first loop of the new color through the next stitch. When you reach this doubled stitch on the next row, pull the new loop through both loops as if they were one stitch. For extra security, you can also use the needle and thread to sew together the 2 loops used in the color change.
  • Each repeat of 9 rows will be worked with a separate ball of yarn. When changing colors, begin with a new ball.

INSTRUCTIONS:

With Color A, count out 78 loops.

Row 1 Work across the 78 loops, as follows, from right to left, *LDR over the next 2 loops, LK in each of the next 4 loops, increase 1 loop, LK in next loop, increase 1 loop, LK in each of the next 4 loops, LDL over the next 2 loops; rep from * across row, do not turn – 78 loops.

Row 2 Working from left to right, LK in each loop across, being careful to include the increase loops. Do not turn.

Row 3 Working from right to left, *LDR over the next 2 loops, LK in each of the next 4 loops, increase 1 loop, LK in next loop, increase 1 loop, LK in each of the next 4 loops, LDL over the next 2 loops; rep from * across row, Turn.

Row 4 Working from right to left with the opposite side facing you, LK in each loop across, being careful to include the increase loops. Do not turn.

Row 5 Working from left to right, *LDR over the next 2 loops, LK in each of the next 4 loops, increase 1 loop, LK in next loop, increase 1 loop, LK in each of the next 4 loops, LDL over the next 2 loops; rep from * across row. Do not turn.

Row 6 Working from right to left, LK in each loop across, being careful to include the increase loops. Turn.

Row 7 Working from right to left, with the original side facing you, *LDR over the next 2 loops, LK in each of the next 4 loops, increase 1 loop, LK in next loop, increase 1 loop, LK in each of the next 4 loops, LDL over the next 2 loops; rep from * across row. Do not turn.

Row 8 Working from left to right, LK in each loop across, being careful to include the increase loops. Do not turn.

Step 2

Row 9 Working from right to left, *LDR over the next 2 loops, LK in each of the next 4 loops, increase 1 loop, LK in next loop, increase 1 loop, LK in each of the next 4 loops, LDL over the next 2 loops; rep from * across row. Do not turn.

Cut A, leaving 1 loop to use when changing colors. Join B.

Rows 10-18 With B, repeat Rows 1-9, working each row in the opposite direction.

Cut B, leaving 1 loop to use when changing colors. Join A.

Repeat Rows 1-18, 3 more times.

Finishing:

Starting at the opposite end of the row as the working yarn, reach through the first loop and grab the second loop, pull it through the first loop, *reach through the loop you just pulled through, grab the next loop, pull this loop through the last loop; repeat from * across until only one loop remains. Cut yarn next to last loop. Use a sewing needle and thread to secure last loop.
