Crochet this sweet, huggable owl blanket for your little sweetie!
Step 1

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: Blanket: 15" across; Owl: 5" tall.

GAUGE: 28 sc x 26 rows = 4" with Wellness Baby™ and size D (3.25mm) crochet hook; save time and check your gauge.


INSTRUCTIONS:

Blanket

With Luvy™ and a Q (16mm) crochet hook, ch 4, sl st in first ch to form a ring.


Rnd 1: Ch 5 (counts as 1st dc and ch-2 sp throughout), [3 dc in ring, ch 2] 3 times, 2 dc in ring, sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch-5 to join – 4 ch-2 sps.

Place a removeable marker in each ch-2 space to mark the corners. Each round, move these markers up to the current ch-2 corner space to help you better keep track of the corners in this fuzzy yarn.

Rnd 2: Sl st in ch-2 sp, ch 5, 2 dc in same ch-2 sp, [ch 1, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in ch-2 sp] 3 times, ch 1, 2 dc in 1st ch-2 sp, sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch-5 to join – 4 ch-2 sps, 4 ch-1 sps.

Rnd 3: Sl st in ch-2 sp, ch 4, 2 dc in same ch-2 sp, *ch 1, 3 dc in ch-1 sp, ch 1, **(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in ch-2 sp; rep from * 2 more times, rep from * to ** once more, 2 dc in 1st ch-2 sp, sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch-5 to join – 4 ch-2 sps, 8 ch-1 sps.

Rnd 4: Sl st in ch-2 sp, ch 4, 2 dc in same ch-2 sp, *(ch 1, 3 dc) in each ch-1 sp to corner, ch 1, **(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in corner ch-2 sp; rep from * 2 more times, rep from * to ** once more, 2 dc in 1st ch-2 sp, sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch-5 to join – 4 ch-2 sps, 4 ch-1 sps increased.

Repeat Rnd 4 until blanket measures 16" square. Fasten off. 

Step 2

Owl Body/Head

With size D hook and B, ch 2, work 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Beginning working in the round in a spiral. Place a marker in the last sc to mark the end of the round, move marker up each round to keep your place.

Rnd 1: 2 sc in each sc around – 12 sc.

Rnd 2: [2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc] around – 18 sc.

Rnd 3: Working in back loop only, [2 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 2 sc] around – 24 sc.

Rnd 4: [2 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 3 sc] around – 30 sc.

Rnd 5: [2 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 4 sc] around – 36 sc.

Rnds 6-9: Continue to increase 6 sc each rnd as established, working 1 more sc between increases each rnd – 60 sc after Rnd 9.

Rnds 10-23: Sc around.

Cut B and join A.

Rnd 24: With A, sc around.

Rnd 25: [Sc2tog, sc in next 8 sc] around – 54 sc.

Rnd 26: [Sc2tog, sc in next 7 sc] around – 48 sc.

Rnd 25: [Sc2tog, sc in next 6 sc] around – 42 sc.

Rnds 26-27: Continue to decrease 6 sc each rnd as established, working 1 fewer sc between increases each rnd, 30 sc after Rnd 27.

Stuff head firmly with fiberfill. 

Step 3

Ears

Fold top of head flat, work across head, working into both the front and back to join and close top of head.

Row 1: Ch 1, sc in 1st sc, 2 sc in the next sc, 3 dc in the next sc, 2 sc in the next sc, sc in each of the next 7 sc, 2 sc in the next sc, 3 dc in the next sc, 2 sc in the next sc, sc in the last sc. Fasten off.


Eyes 
(Make 2)

With D hook and D, ch 2, work 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook.

Rnd 1: 2 sc in each sc around – 12 sc.

Rnd 2: [2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc] around – 18 sc.

Cut D and join C.

Rnd 3: With C, sc in each sc around.

Rnd 4: [2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc] around – 24 sc.

Fasten off, leaving a 24" tail.

Using tail, sew eye onto owl and embroider white accent. 

Step 4

Wings (Make 2)

With D hook and B, ch 2, work 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Begin working in the round in a spiral. Place a marker in the last sc to mark the end of the round, move marker up each round to keep your place.

Rnd 1: 2 sc in each sc around – 12 sc.

Rnd 2: [2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc] around – 18 sc.

Rnd 3: [2 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 2 sc] around – 24 sc.

Rnd 4: [2 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 3 sc] around – 30 sc.

Rnd 5: [2 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 4 sc] around – 36 sc.

Rnd 6: Sc in next 4 sc, hdc in next 2 sc, dc in next 2 sc, tr in next 4 sc, dc in next 2 sc, hdc in next 2 sc, sc in each sc to end, sl st to 1st sc to join. Fasten off leaving a 12" tail.

Using tail, sew wings to owl.


Finishing:

With A, embroider owl beak.

Sew center of blanket to owl. Weave in remaining ends.
