marble-dyed shoes

Make your summer extra stylish with these bright and swirly marble-dyed shoes! It’s super-easy when you use the Tulip® Marbling Fabric Dye Kit™. Just pick your favorite color combination – you’ll find almost everything you need inside. (Ok, except the shoes!) We’ll walk you through the rest. Let’s go!
Step 1
Got your shoes ready? (Remember, they should be made from a natural fiber, like cotton.) Start by pre-washing them and then dry them completely.
Step 2
Next, cover any surface that you don’t want dyed (for example, the toe caps and outsoles) with masking tape. Also, stuff the inside of each shoe with bubble wrap.
Step 3
Cover your working surface with a plastic table cover. These dyes are very colorful and you don’t want to leave stains!
Step 4
Now, fill a plastic storage box about halfway with water. Make sure the box is at least slightly larger than your shoe!

TIP: You’ll need two plastic storage boxes, one for each shoe. If you’ve only got one container handy, no worries! You can just empty it out after the first shoe, refill it and repeat these instructions for the second.
Step 5
Take your bottle of marbling medium and squirt it back and forth over the water’s surface. Keep going until there’s an even layer of marbling medium covering the surface of each water container.
Step 6
Put on gloves to protect your hands from staining, and squirt or drizzle all three dyes on top of the layer of marbling medium in each container.
Step 7
Next, use a toothpick to create designs in the dyes on the water’s surface.

TIP: This is easy to do! Just place the tip of your toothpick into a section of dye, then draw it down into another section. You can work in small areas or pull the toothpick through the entire length and width of your water container.
Step 8
Carefully dip one shoe into the medium. Gently roll it to one side, then the other, as you move it through the layer of dyes, submerging it completely. Remove the shoe and leave it to dry. Let the dye set for 6-8 hours. Repeat this step to marble dye your second shoe in another container.
Step 9
Once the dye has had time to set, remove the tape and bubble wrap from each shoe. Rinse the shoes until your water runs clear.
Step 10
Almost done! Now you’ll just run your shoes through your washing machine on a regular cycle. Let your shoes air dry, or place them in the dryer on tumble dry low.
