Martha Stewart Crafts® Weather Crackle Effect is rated 3.2 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not Sure Why the Low Ratings, this worked for me Even after I read the seemingly bad reviews online, and because I was desperate to finish a project, I bought this. I read the instructions and was confused about everyone else's confusion - the directions were very clear to me. The key, and I cannot stress this enough, is TO TEST FIRST. My project happened to be unfinished pine letters. I had a scrap piece of pine wood to test, so I did with a few different color combinations. What worked best for my project was a white base color, then the crackle, then the contrasting color (red). My pine letter really soaked up the white, and I ended up doing 3 layers of white so the crackle would really show through. I also found that putting a semi-thick layer of crackle as opposed thinly applying also worked best. You must let each layer dry completely before doing the next step. Could not be happier with my results!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Terrible directions, great results As others have mentioned, the directions are a bit vague. I used this on a mask I painted to give it an old crackling porcelain effect. I saw good results with a base coat of acrylic (grayish), allowing to dry, then applying the Weather Crackle Effect and allowing this to dry (I actually used a hair dryer on the cool setting to aid with this because it's thick and was taking a while to dry) and finally, applying my desired top coat (an antique white/beige). It started working immediately and looks quite good on the mask. The key is to use two contrasting colors for your base and top coats and to allow everything to dry in between each step. I'm not sure how it would react to other mediums, but it worked very well for me with acrylics on plastic.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product I tried many brand and this one is by far my favorite. So easy to apply. And works instantly. As soon as you put your final top layer of paint it's starts cracking. Love it and recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Crackle effect I saw someone use this on a canvas and just had to try it. At first I was scared I would screw it up, but it worked! Just make sure you paint first with the color you want the cracks to be. Use this, then paint a contrasting color.
