mother's ombré diy candle
Step 1 |
Use e6000® to attach a wick to the bottom, middle of the inside of the jar. Let dry. |
Step 2 |
Follow the instructions included with your candle maker to learn how to measure and melt wax. |
Step 3 |
Melt wax to fill about 1/3 of your jar. Add dye and/or fragrance to your wax. Mix well with a craft stick. |
Step 4 |
While your jar is snapped open, slide your jar in place at the base of your candle maker. |
Step 5 |
Make sure your wick is in the middle and open the spout on your candle maker to let melted wax fill the mold 1/3 of the way. Let cool. |
Step 6 |
Repeat Steps 2-5 for the next 1/3, let dry, then again for the last third. |
Step 7 |
Trim the wick so it is sticking up from the candle about 1" [2.5 cm]. |
Step 8 |
To embellish around the outside of your jar candle, click here for the design in Cricut® Design Space™. |
Step 9 |
Now, click ‘Make It’ in the upper right corner and then click ‘Continue’ in the lower right corner of your screen. |
Step 10 |
Place the first layer of vinyl, grid-side down, onto your cutting mat and load it into your Cricut® machine. Select ‘Vinyl’ as your material and follow the prompts to cut out your design. Once the machine has finished cutting, gently peel the vinyl away from your mat. Repeat for your second vinyl layer. |
Step 11 |
Use scissors to cut away the vinyl around your design. Next, use your weeder tool to peel away the remaining negative space surrounding the initial and name. When you’re done, only the design itself should be left on the backer paper. |
Step 12 |
Cut a piece of transfer tape that’s just a bit larger than the design. Peel away the tape’s backer paper and place the tape, sticky-side down, over this part of the design. Burnish the vinyl so that it’s completely stuck to the tape. |
Step 13 |
Now, gently peel the white backer paper from the cut-out design, which now should be stuck to the transfer tape. |
Step 14 |
Hold the transfer tape with the design over your surface to determine where you’d like it place; then press it onto your surface. Burnish the vinyl once more to make sure it’s completely stuck to the surface and gently peel away the transfer tape, leaving the vinyl transferred to your surface. |
