Step 1
Keep warm and cozy this winter with our No Sew Buffalo Plaid Fleece Blanket! This double-sided throw is simple to make – just knot its fringed ends together. Pick your favorite fleece online in the Hancock Fabrics tab at michaels.com; then check out our instructions to get started!   Step 1 First, lay the red fleece fabric on your working surface with its right side facing down. Lay the buffalo plaid fleece fabric, right side facing up, on top of the red fleece. Now that your fabrics are layered on top of each other with their wrong sides together, match up the selvages on each; then trim off the selvage edges. TIP: For this project, use your pinking shears throughout, instead of scissors or shears. Step 2 Decide what size you want your blanket to be; then add 6" to both the length and width. The extra yardage will become the tied fringe that borders the entire blanket. Use your measurements to cut out both layers of fabric at once. TIP:  Here’s an example of how to measure: If you want your finished blanket to be 48"x48", then cut your layered fleece fabrics to each be 54"x54". You may find it helpful to use the squares in your buffalo plaid print to make sure your cuts are straight. Step 3 Next, pin the two fabrics together, just to keep them from shifting while you finish the blanket. Step 4 Now, make the fringed border that you’ll use to tie the blanket together. Cut 3" long slits along each side of the blanket, perpendicular to the fabric’s edge. As you work, cut through both layers of fabric at once. Continue to use the checkered squares in your buffalo plaid print as your straight edge. Step 5 It’s time to tie your blanket together! To start, choose a corner of the blanket and take the first ‘tab’ (cut in Step 4) that’s made up of the two matched layers of fleece fabric. Pull apart the two layers; then tie them together into a square knot. Pull the knot tightly to make it secure. TIP: This fleece fabric has more ‘give’ in one direction than the other, so be careful not to stretch out the fringes as you tie your knots. If this does happen, no worries! Just trim the fringe’s ends so it’s even with the other tabs. Step 6 Keep knotting! Continue to tie together the two layers in each tab, all the way around your blanket, until it’s finished.
