Step 1
FINISHED SIZE: 7½" x 6½".
GAUGE: 5 hdc + 5 sl st + 4 hdc = 4"
 
Ch 33. Sl st into the 8th ch from the hook. The 8 ch you have skipped will become the trivet’s loop.

Row 1 Ch1 and hdc into the next ch. Hdc once into each ch across the row. Turn.

Row 2 Ch 1. Working in the back loop only, sl st into each st across the row. Turn.

Row 3 Ch 2 and sk the first st. This will count as your first hdc. Working in the back loop only, hdc once into each st across the row. Turn.

Rows 4-17 Rep Rows 2 and 3. 
Step 2
FINISHING
When you have finished the final row, turn and ch 1. Working in both loops, sc into each st to create a border around the trivet. When you reach the end of the row, (sc, ch 1, sc) into the last st to turn the corner. Continue to work one sc into each st around the dish towel, working (sc, ch 1, sc) into the last st at each corner. When you reach the final corner, which is the corner with the hanging loop, make 12 sc into the loop itself. Sl st to the first sc to finish the border. Knot off your yarn, trim the excess and weave in the ends.
