Beginner
You're new to the skills necessary to complete this project, or maybe you've tried them just once or twice before.
Step 1 |
Measure and draw the shape and size of your rug on the Graph N' Latch® rug canvas with a Sharpie® marker. TIP: The size of the elongated hexagon rug featured is 19"x 27". |
Step 2 |
Cut out the rug shape and lay it out on top of a working surface. |
Step 3 |
Set the smallest pom pom maker aside as you will not need it. Use the remaining three sizes of pom pom makers and make several pom poms in varying sizes, colors and yarn weights. Be sure to leave two long tails on the pom poms when trimming them to shape so you can tie onto the rug canvas. TIP: Follow package instructions to make pom poms. |
Step 4 |
Start by laying pom poms in random size and color order around the perimeter of the rug canvas. Once you like the orientation, slide pom poms away from the rug. |
Step 5 |
Use the latch hook tool to thread pom pom tails through the holes of the rug canvas and then tie in a knot. |
Step 6 |
Fill in the inside of the canvas rug with pom poms until tightly covered in pom poms. |
Step 7 |
Turn rug over and trim ends. TIP: To prevent skidding, brush a thin, even layer of a non-skid safety backing all over the back of the rug. Let dry 24 hours and add a second coat. Let the second coat dry another 24 hours. Share your project photos with #MakeItWithMichaels |
