My Potzi

I purchased the UV clear coat to help the materials that I am painting.
I repurpose yard ornaments for my neighbors.
Arizona sun breaks down the paints so hopefully the UV coating will last longer then the standard coatings.
Too early to tell since my few yard ornaments I painted are within the last six months.
Findings to be determined.

This is another one of the Krylon products I use to topcoat my Gunpla -- the other being the more affordable Krylon 1311 Matte Finish spray -- and both being good alternatives to the Mr. Hobby Super Clear Matt spray. I find the UV Resistant Clear Coating to be a bit more forgiving than the Krylon 1311 for what I use it for -- and the negative reviews I see on this product seem to mirror those of the Krylon 1311 and to which I say that, in my personal opinion, it boils down to people not knowing how to use it: ou must shake the product really well, usually a minute or two - you must keep the spray can at least 10 inches away from whatever you wanna spray this product on - you must do this in a dry environment - you must do this when the temperature is at least 70F If you don't do this, you end up with a chalky haze-like coating on whatever you're spraying. You guys have no idea how susceptible the finish is to temperature and humidity is -- but if you follow the instructions properly, you get a really good result for the price point.

My biggest gripe with this product is that it is harder to find at hobby stores.

Not Happy

Used per directions and it ruined a painting we had commissioned while visiting another country.  I don't understand what went wrong as this is the intended used of the product.  It went completely hazy and looked terrible. No we are out an irreplaceable memoir.

Just ruined two irreplaceable works of art. Archival inkjet prints on watercolor paper mounted on bamboo panels, totally ruined. My deep luscious blacks are now white or foggy grey tones, splotchy all over.  How do you remove this awfulness? Is there a way? I was under a deadline so you know I trusted what your product description claims. No time for prior research and now I’m screwed a day right before an expensive art show, and your customer service is of course closed today, yay!

I bought both the gloss and matte finishes to seal my raku fired ceramic pieces.  It left a completely clear coating with no streaks or cloudiness.  I bought the UV resistant clear to protect the pieces from fading in the sun, which raku fired pieces are prone to do.  I haven't had it on the pieces long enough to see if it is effective against fading, so this review is only for the clear coating.  I did shake the can for the entire 2 minutes as directed on the can - I timed it.  Another review mentioned that not shaking long enough could be part of the problem with streaking and cloudiness that some reviewers experienced.

Get Heated LLC

I've been using Krylon products for years and literally just stumbled across the reviews on this clear coat product I have used countless times before in my fabrication business as well as at home. I can tell you for a fact every 1 star review was left by someone using the wrong product, or using it incorrectly. This product is EXCELLENT at doing the job it's meant to do when mixed and applied properly! I'm not being reimbursed for saying any of this (although I wish I was).
Hope this review helps level headed customers choose more based on facts than feelings.

I bought a can of Krylon UV-resistant clear coating (matt) to protect several art prints that I ordered. The spray has ruined the print I sprayed. It's vivid colours now have a white coat over them. I will need to order the print again, but will not be confident to use this spray once more. The spray was expensive even without considering the cost of the print and its postage to me, or the time I spent researching this product and choosing the print.

Sprayed on wood red heart wreath in order to keep it from fading in sunlight.  Left whitish finish in areas.  Looks terrible!  Not an expensive wreath so I will repaint, but I will not use this product again.  Complete waste of money.

First, let me say, I never spray directly on anything irreplaceable without testing it first... no matter how great the reviews. I recommend others do the same as a general practice. 
I am a photographer and tried this on canvas and on glossy photo paper. I found that it worked fine on canvas. However, when I sprayed it on a test photograph (on photo paper), not so much. It left spots and a white haze. I checked the nozzle and tried a different test image, same thing. I waited a while to see if it would dry clear, some areas did, but the coverage was splotchy at best. Interestingly enough, the white hazy stuff wiped off. I don’t know if that removed the product completely or if the haze is simply a byproduct. But I can’t say I’d recommend it for glossy photo paper. Just as an experiment, I also tested it on the clear glass of a broken frame before I disposed of the frame. Same outcome as on the glossy paper. So maybe this stuff doesn’t like a slick surface. 
But advice to all customers and artists... always test each can before you use it on anything irreplaceable. Sometimes spray nozzles that have been bumped around on the shelf at local stores or in shipping can spray funny even if the product itself is fine. Better to be safe than sorry.

If you have a project that only requires one can you are fine, but if you need more than one, I have found they don't have the same gloss finish in each can.
