With smaller needles, cast on 90 (94-98-98-102) sts.

1st Row: (RS). *K2. P2. Rep from * to last 2 sts. K2.

2nd Row: *P2. K2. Rep from * to last 2 sts. P2. Rep last 2 rows (K2. P2) ribbing for 1" , ending on a 2nd row and dec 1 (3-1-1-1) st(s) evenly across last row. 89 (91-97-97-101) sts. Proceed in stocking st until Hat from beg measures 5½ (6-6½-7-7¼)" , ending on a purl row.

Step 2:

Shape Crown:

1st Row: *K9 (7-10-10-23). K2tog. Rep from * to last st. K1. 81 (81-89-89-97) sts.

2nd and following WS Rows: Purl.

3rd Row: *K8 (8-9-9-10). K2tog. Rep from * to last st. K1. 73 (73-81-81-89) sts.

5th Row: *K7 (7-8-8-9). K2tog. Rep from * to last st. K1. 65 (65-73-73-81) sts.

7th Row: *K6 (6-7-7-8). K2tog. Rep from * to last st. K1. 57 (57-65-65-73) sts.

9th Row: *K5 (5-6-6-7). K2tog. Rep from * to last st. K1. 49 (49-57-57-65) sts.

11th Row: *K4 (4-5-5-6). K2tog. Rep from *to last st. K1. 41 (41-49-49-57) sts.

All Sizes: Break yarn, leaving a long end. Thread end through rem sts and draw up tightly. Sew center back seam. Sew pom pom to top of Hat.
