silly monster slime and jar
Step 1 |
Project Notes: - This project is intended for kids ages 4 and older.- When you’re crafting with little ones, keep an eye on the pom-poms and sequins, since these may present a choking hazard. - When making slime, be smart and protect your work surface with wax (or parchment) paper. You also may want to wear an apron (or other protective garment) to avoid slime-related accidents.
|
Step 2 |
Follow your recipe’s instructions to make a batch of clear slime and mix in Sky Blue icing color. TIP: Dip a craft stick into the icing color container, then mix the color into the glue, stirring thoroughly until it’s completely blended. Always use a new, clean craft stick when dipping into your food coloring, in order to avoid cross-contamination. |
Step 3 |
Flatten out your slime on a piece of wax (or palette) paper and sprinkle on plenty of Robin’s Egg glitter. Fold the slime’s edges in toward the center to blend the glitter into the slime. |
Step 4 |
Repeat this technique to add a generous sprinkle of chunky aqua glitter. Do the same to add brightly colored pom-poms, too. Continue folding and stretching until all the mix-ins are evenly distributed throughout the slime. |
Step 5 |
Set your slime aside for a bit while you decorate your jar to look like a monster. First, add a couple of cute eye stickers to the side of the jar, then use your white and black paint pens to draw a mouth and terrifying teeth underneath. Don’t forget to draw in some furry details with a yellow paint pen (or any other color you like). Let the paint dry for a few minutes. |
Step 6 |
To cover the top of the jar, first turn it over and trace its lid onto the paper backing on a piece of adhesive foam. Cut out this foam circle, remove its backing and stick onto the lid, covering it completely. Next, cut out a strip from the long side of the adhesive foam. (1" - 1½" is great, but this measurement doesn’t have to be exact.) Cut triangles into one long side to create zigzags. Remove this foam piece’s backing and wrap it around the lid so that the zigzag is pointing downward. |
Step 7 |
This monster clearly needs horns! Wrap two contrasting chenille pipe cleaners together to create one thicker chenille pipe cleaner. Fold this chenille pipe cleaner in half and curl both halves around your finger or a pencil to make a spiral. Repeat this step to make a second horn. |
Step 8 |
ADULT: Hot glue a large sparkle pom right in between the two horns. Let the glue cool for a few seconds. Then the jar’s ready to be filled with slime. |
Step 9 |
