space pirate costume

Trick or treating will be out of this world with this fun Space Pirate Costume.
Step 1
Print out the template pages from michaels.com and set them aside until Steps 5 and 6.

Step 2
Have your space pirate wear the T-shirt as he or she would normally.
Step 3
To make the hood, turn the second T-shirt inside out. Hold the shirt upside down over the space pirate’s head, so that the collar is on the bottom, closest to the head. The shirt’s tag should still be in the back. Put the collar of the shirt over the head and onto the space pirate’s neck, so that the remainder of the shirt is covering his or her head. Fold back the bottom hem of the shirt to create a hood around the face. If desired, fold the hem over once more to cover the inside seam of the hem. Behind the head, you’ll see the T-shirt’s sleeves hanging down. Gather them loosely at the back of the neck, and wrap with a chenille stem to fasten. Tuck the stem-wrapped sleeves under the back collar of the T-shirt. Adjust and fluff.
Step 4
To make the bandolier, cut a piece of cardstock into 2" strips. Use the black tape to tape the strips together at their short ends, making two 25"x2" strips. Tape the two strips together at top and bottom, trimming the bottom ends at an angle, as shown in the project image. Completely cover a second piece of black cardstock with strips of Silver tape. Cut the sheet into eight to ten 3"x2" rectangles and place them 1½" apart on the front side of the bandolier. Tip: Fold small pieces of the black tape into sticky side-out loops and place one behind each of the Silver rectangles to tack them down onto the cardstock base. Cut a 25" long strip of the black tape, and run it down the center of the bandolier base, over the Silver rectangles, so that they’re securely attached to the bandolier base.
Step 5
To make gauntlets, cut out the template on the page marked “Gauntlet”. Trace it twice on black cardstock and cut out both shapes. Add a strip of Silver tape at the wrist end of one gauntlet. Cover the opposite, curved end with tape as well. Use the project image as a guide. With a black Sharpie® marker, draw studs on the Silver trim. Do the same for the second gauntlet. Wrap each around your space pirate’s forearm, with the curved ends pointing toward the elbow. Tape along the seam.
Step 6
To make shinguards, cut out the template on the page marked “shinguard”. Trace it twice on black cardstock and cut out both shapes. Add Silver tape to the center of each shinguard, using the project image as a guide. Use the black Sharpie® to draw lines and studs on the Silver portion. Cut four strips of cardstock that are 12"x2" each. With the black tape, secure two of each to the underside of each shinguard: one near the top and one near the bottom. Wrap the strips around your space pirate’s lower legs over his or her pants or leggings, and tape them together in the back.
Step 7
Wear with leggings or pants and comfy shoes.
