No straight needle
Drove 40 miles round trip because I needed it now. Came without straight needle. I need a straight needle. Package says 1 straight needle 1 curved needle. If you buy this open package before you leave the store. Also made in China. I would buy a different brand if possible.

Sturdy and Complete
This awl replaced my old one, which finally broke after at least fifty years. It is sturdy and came with everything you will need to begin using it right away. After trying it out, I was surprised at how much smoother the new needle glides through the leather than my old one. I am happy with this purchase and expect that I'll never need to buy another one.

Awl in one? More like ALL in one!
Works great for starting off with smaller projects. Excited to use it for more leather work. Had more to it than what it showed which is awesome!

Stitching Awl
Purchased for my husband's leather working and my sewing on belts. Works fine but wish other colors of thread were offered.

Helpful but tad pricey..
Like the title says, it was helpful in terms of it taught me how to stitch this way. Keep in mind ive never stitched anything in my entire life and im 33. Ive done almost every hobby there is, one leads to another and currently im working with leather. This tool will punch through leather if your not using an actual "punch" before hand. It will also give you a really nice and tight stitch... if it works smoothly. Yep, heres my negative comments. My first job went smoothly, i practiced on a scrap and it took 3 stitches for me to learn whats going on and went on to make a wallet. My second job, bigger job, it started getting to tight and uncomfortable to use, i was using quality, nice strans of hemp, lightly waxed and it eventually snapped. Started over with giving it more slack in mind, it got too loose and kept unlooping itself, got annoying and i just ended up hand stitching the project.
I havnt given up on it because the first try went impressively perfect lol. I did make sure to check everything to make sure it ran smooth but maybe i missed something second and third try?
Overall based on quality and function i think its something you do need in your tools, but at around $15.

Pro Quality tool
This is a very versatile pro quality tool. Excellent for stitching leather, webbing, canvas, vinyl and other heavy materials. Close examination shows that this is actually a Stewart Speedy Stitcher, which is sold under many brands. It is made in USA by a small family operation and has been since 1909! It sews a lock stitch that can be as tight and clean as any machine with just a little practice. Check the manufacturer's website or youtube for instructions on how to use it. Replacement needles and bobbins are available.
