tie dye fringe shirt

Nothing screams summer like a Tie Dye T-Shirt. Add some fringe for some added fun and enjoy your new summer top!
Step 1
Project Note: This project should take approximately 11 hours total to prepare, wash, set and craft.

Wash T-shirt and leave damp. Lay out flat on covered work surface and smooth out wrinkles.
Step 2
Prepare work surface with a plastic table cover. Cover with a layer of paper towels.
Step 3
Twist T-shirt following the spiral technique, as shown in package instructions, and secure with rubber bands, included in package.
Step 4
Wearing the protective gloves included in package, mix Turquoise, Fuchsia and Lime dyes according to package instructions.
Step 5
Apply each color to one-third of T-shirt in pie-shaped wedges.
Step 6
Turn project over and repeat dye sequence on back.
Step 7
Cover dyed shirt with plastic and allow to set at least eight hours.
Step 8
Remove bands and rinse shirt under running water to remove excess dye.
Step 9
Wash and dry shirt as fabric requires.
Step 10
Lay the shirt on a flat surface and smooth out any wrinkles or folds. Trim the sleeves and collar of the T-Shirt according to your preference.
Step 11
Cut off the bottom hem of the T-Shirt just above the stitch line.
Step 12
Measure up 8½" from the new bottom edge of the T-shirt, and use quilting pins to mark this horizontal line across the shirt.
Step 13
Now use your ruler and pen to measure and mark vertical lines 1" apart from the pin line to the bottom of the shirt. These vertical strips should extend from side seam to side seam across the shirt.
Step 14
With scissors, cut through both layers of fabric along these vertical lines, creating a row of fringe across the entire bottom of the shirt. Cut through the stitching at the side seams as well, to separate the T-shirt’s front and back.
Step 15
Starting with two strips next to each other at one of the side seams, knot every two strips together with an overhand knot, all the way around the shirt.
Step 16
Create a new row of knots underneath the first, but shift over one strip before beginning to knot every two strips together. This will cause the second row of strips to be offset from the first, as in the image. As you knot, adjust the strips to make sure each knot is snug and the ends are even.
