watermelon straw hat
What could be sweeter than this watermelon straw hat? It’s the perfect thing for your next sunny summer outing. All you’ll need to make this fresh addition to your wardrobe is a little craft paint – it’s super-easy!
Step 1 |
First, use your brush to paint three outermost braided rounds of the brim with Lily Pad paint to represent the rind of a watermelon. Let the paint dry. |
Step 2 |
Paint 1" vertical stripes around with Pea Shoot paint the over the Lily Pad in small sections, evenly, 'round the brim. Let dry. |
Step 3 |
Next, paint a majority of the brim (from the base of the crown out) with Party Streamer (pink) paint, but stop at the third round from the painted Lily Pad section (leave the three rings between the two painted sections unpainted). Let the paint dry. |
Step 4 |
Make a seed stencil by cutting out a watermelon seed shape from your masking tape. One is all you need! |
Step 5 |
Place the seed stencil with its rounded end at the outer edge of the brim’s pink section. The seed’s pointed end should be facing inward, toward the crown. Now, outline the seed shape with your black marker. Repeat to outline more seeds, evenly spaced-ish, all the way around the pink section of the brim. |
Step 6 |
Use a detail brush from your set to fill in each seed shape with Beetle Black paint. That’s it! Let the paint dry and you’re ready for your day in the sun. Share your project photos with #MakeItWithMichaels |
