welcome dark wood plaque

Give a big welcome to your guests with this oversized wood plaque! It’s easy to make with your Cricut® machine. Just use the provided template to cut out the vinyl letters spelling “Welcome”, or personalize a sign with your very own message! Either way, we’re here to help; check out our instructions below!
Step 1
We have this project’s design all ready for you! Just click here to download the file, then upload it into your Cricut® Design Space™. Choose the file so that it appears in your design screen, and make sure it’s sized to the maximum length allowable (11½").

TIP: Once you open the design, you’ll see that we’ve split the word “Welcome” into two sections (“Welc” and “ome”). We did this so the letters will be large enough to fill the dark wood plaque (it is 27" long). If you want to design your own word, just remember split the word so your letters are large enough to fill the plaque.
Step 2
Click “Make It” in the upper right corner of the canvas screen, and then “Continue” in the lower right corner of the prepare screen.
Step 3
Place your sheet of vinyl onto the cutting mat (making sure the grid side is facing down), then load it into your Cricut® machine. Select ‘Vinyl’ as your material and follow the prompts to cut out your word.
Step 4
Gently peel the vinyl from your cutting mat, then use your weeder tool to remove all the excess vinyl around and inside your letters. When you’re done, only the letters themselves should be left on the backer paper.
Step 5
With scissors, cut the vinyl sheet in between the two rows of letters, so that “Welc” and “ome” are now separate pieces. Trim down the backer paper to the right of the “c” and to the left of the “o,” then line up the two rows to spell out “Welcome”. Cut a few small pieces of transfer tape and use them to tape together the vinyl pieces above and below the letters.
Step 6
Cut a piece of transfer tape that is a bit bigger than your word, then peel away and discard the backer paper. Place the sticky transfer tape (sticky-side down) on top of the vinyl word. Burnish the letters to make sure they’re completely stuck to the tape. Then, gently peel away the backer paper at one corner, leaving your vinyl word attached to the transfer tape.

TIP: Burnishing just means using your finger (or fingernail) to rub the vinyl all over, especially along the edges. Make sure you get every letter!
Step 7
Now, place the tape onto your plaque. Make sure the word “Welcome” is centered and straight; then burnish the letters once more to make sure they’re completely stuck to the wood surface.
Step 8
Almost done! All you need to do now is gently peel away the transfer tape.
