wilton® valentine's day cake pops

Need a quick, deliciously decadent treat for Valentine’s Day? These sweet, pink and white cake pops are the answer. They’re crazy easy to make: just pick your favorite vanilla, chocolate or red velvet cake mix and get started. Whether you pack them in a fancy little bag with some ribbon or just hand them out with a smile, no one will be able to resist these tasty bites!
Step 1
Project Note: This recipe makes about 24 cake pops.

Prepare the cake batter by following your favorite box mix recipe. Bake your cake in a 9" x 13" pan, then let it cool.
Step 2
Cut the cake in half, and set aside one half for another project. Crumble the cake half into a large bowl, using your hands to break up any large chunks.
Step 3
Add ½ cup of icing, and mix until cake and icing are well combined.
Step 4
With your hands, form this mixture into cake balls. You’ll want to use about 2 tablespoons of the mixture per ball. As you make the cake balls, place them onto a parchment paper-covered cake board. When you’re finished, chill them to harden (this will take about 2 hours, total).
Step 5
Melt the candy according to package instructions. If you’d like to thin the candy a bit, stir in 1-2 tablespoons of shortening after melting.

TIP: Hey, do you happen to have a Wilton® Chocolate Pro® Melting Pot? They are AMAZING for projects like this one. Check them out here (there’s a video and everything!)
Step 6
Dip the tip of a lollipop stick into your melted candy, then insert the candy-covered tip into the cake pop itself. Repeat for all your cake pops.
Step 7
Chill the cake pops again until the candy is set. It will only take about 15 minutes.
Step 8
Combine assorted sprinkles in a small bowl and stir them around a bit so they’re mixed together.
Step 9
Allow your cake pops to come back up to room temperature.
Step 10
Holding the lollipop stick securely, dip your cake pop into the melted candy. As you remove it, tap the stick lightly on the side of your bowl to remove any excess. Immediately add sprinkles. Repeat for all the cake pops.

TIP: If the candy has started to harden, you may need to reheat it. Or, if you’re using a Wilton® Chocolate Pro® Melting Pot, you can just set it to ‘Warm’ and it’ll never harden (and that’s why we love it so much).
Step 11
Chill the pops again until set, just about 10 to 15 minutes.
