wire wrapped blue chunky agate necklace

There’s no one quite as special as Mom, so let’s make her a Mother’s Day gift that’s equally one-of-a-kind. This wire-wrapped blue agate necklace is exactly what you’re looking for. Each natural druzy stone is unique, but they’re all gorgeous! We’ll show you how to wrap the stone into a lovely DIY pendant!
Step 1
Let’s start with the Gold ball chain. Use your wire cutters to cut the chain link that connects this first ball in the chain. You now have a small chain, then a ball, more chain, another ball and so on. Now, count 25 balls along your necklace (including the first ball in your count), and cut the chain again at the link, disconnecting the 26th ball.
Step 2
Add a smaller jump ring to one end of the ball chain, then close it up. At the opposite end of the chain, add a small jump ring that’s attached to a lobster clasp. Set your chain aside; you won’t need it again until the end, at Step 10.

TIP: A bead reamer will help you to open up the chain link a bit, so that you can thread on the jump ring. Here’s the best way to open and close a jump ring:
   -  Grasp the jump ring on both sides with pliers, then twist the ring open from side to side.
   -  Never pull the jump ring’s edges straight apart, since that can distort its circular shape.
Step 3
Next, measure and cut a 12" length of Artistic Wire®.
Step 4
Grasp one end of the wire with round nose pliers, at about ¼" from the end of the pliers, and roll the wire towards you to create a loop.

TIP: Measure and mark your round nose pliers at a ¼" from the end of the pliers with a Sharpie® marker. This will help you make wire loops that are always the same size. (Pretty cool, right?)
Step 5
Insert the opposite end of the wire through the hole in a blue druzy agate bead.
Step 6
Bend the wire so the loop end wraps around to the back of your agate bead and stands upright, barely peeking over the top of the bead.
Step 7
Holding the loop in place, wrap the excess wire around the agate bead a few times, from front to back. When you’re happy with the way your wraps look, bring the wire end to the back of the agate bead.
Step 8
Tuck the wire end through the wrap at the back of the agate bead, then twist it around the wrapped wire. Trim the excess wire, if needed.
Step 9
Add a generous amount of glue to all of the wire on the back of the agate bead. Let glue dry completely.
Step 10
Finally, open a jump ring and add the loop that is peeking over the top of the agate bead. Then add your chain, too. Close the ring to finish the necklace.
