You're somewhat experienced with the skills necessary to complete this project, but you haven't mastered all the elements, yet.
Step 1
Click here to download and print patterns.
Step 2
Lightly sand the recipe box to ensure that the surface of the wood is smooth.
Step 3
Place transfer paper, darker side down, on the top of the box. Place the “Recipes” pattern on top of that and tape both down. Trace the word with a pencil. Remove the printed pattern and transfer paper.
Step 4
Place transfer paper and the cupcake pattern on the front of the recipe box, and tape both down. Trace the design with a pencil. Remove the printed pattern and transfer paper.
Step 5
Use the Creative Versa-Tool® to burn the “Recipes” and cupcake outlines you have traced onto the wood.

TIP: Use the Creative Versa-Tool® on a high heat setting for a darker burn. Clean the tip(s) with coarse grit sandpaper as needed.
Step 6
Use the universal point to make the thicker lines and the tapered point for the thinner lines and details. Use the (leaf-shaped) shading point for filling in larger areas, such as the inside of the letters on the top of the recipe box.

TIP: Be sure to turn the Creative Versa-Tool® off and wait at least 5 minutes before removing a point with pliers and replacing it with another point. Never touch the end of the tool; it is very hot.
Step 7
Add color to the cupcakes with Artist’s Loft® watercolor pencils. On the left cupcake, use Clay Yellow for the top and Gray for the bottom.
Step 8
On the middle cupcake, use White and a bit of Clay Yellow for the top and Ocean Blue for the bottom.
Step 9
Use a blend of Carmine and Cherry Red for the cherry on top.
Step 10
On the right cupcake, use Medium Brown for the top and Gray for the bottom.
Step 11
Add sprinkles to the left and right cupcakes with a White fine line paint pen. Let dry.
Step 12
Create card dividers by cutting 5¾" wide x 3½" tall rectangles from chipboard. Make tabs on the dividers that are 2" - 2½" wide: measure and make marks where your tabs will begin and end. Cut around them to make each tab a height of ½" from the top of the divider card.
Step 13
Place a cupcake sticker and write a recipe category on each divider tab. You can further decorate dividers with stickers, washi tape and/or drawings.

NOTE: Recipes on standard size index cards will fit perfectly.
