Step 1 |
First, cut four sticks to size with a small saw or leave as is, to build your frame. Lay the sticks on top of each other and use a thin yarn to wrap around the corners and tie them together with a double knot. When finished your frame should feel secure. |
Step 2 |
Now, create the warp with the same narrow yarn. You need yarn pieces twice the length of the height plus 8” [20.3 cm]. |
Step 3 |
To tie on the warp, fold your yarn strand in half and lay the folded piece under the top of the stick frame. Pull the two tails of yarn over the stick and through the loop on the other side. Pull to tighten. Next pull the two strands to the bottom of the stick frame and keeping both together, wrap around and tie in place. Repeat this until you have created the entire warp. The strands should be about 1” [2.5 cm] apart. Trim away the extra yarn tails. |
Step 4 |
To begin weaving, start with your thicker yarns. Wrap a piece of tape around the end of the yarn to make it easier to weave. Starting on the back side, carefully weave under and over the warp yarns, around the side sticks and back and forth. When you want to change yarns, cut your working yarn and tie on your new yarn with a double knot. Make sure the knot is on the back side and continue going over and under the warp. When finished tie the final piece to the warp. |
Step 5 |
Finally, add dried floral accents. Cut off small sections of dried grasses and/or seed pods. Very carefully weave them over the top of the yarn and under some of the warp yarns. Work in sections to create the overall look you desire. |
